Compromise in the Church - Part 1
Posted in A Day the Lord Made
What
is the reason for some of the compromise that we see in the body of
Christ? Could it be that we don't fully understand God's
Word? Are we too busy following the latest trends and fashions of
our present culture? How about the music of our day and
age? I can think of quite a number of reasons. Are we
really listening to the voice of the Lord? Do we tune Him out
when hearing His instruction becomes an inconvenience? One of my
all time favorite ministries Answers in Genesis has
lifted the shroud and exposed one of the terrible mistakes that the
church has been making lately and that is not taking ALL of the Bible
seriously. Some Christians think that it doesn't matter what we
believe about the accounts written in Genesis but I have to say that it
makes the rest of the Gospel crystal clear concerning origins, where
sin came from, geology, astronomy etc.
Ken Ham
To
me, it was vital that the pastors defend the Book of Genesis to the
students. After all, if the first book in the Bible can’t be trusted in
their eyes, why should any other? As one lady put it to me 20 years
later, ‘When my church told me that I had to accept evolution, and that
Genesis couldn’t be believed as written, I asked, “When does God start
telling the truth then?”’ I had enough interaction with the
students to know that this was how their thinking went as well. If in
their religious education classes they were being told to believe the
New Testament—but they knew from science that the first book in the
Bible wasn’t true—why should they trust any of it?
Gary Bates
"Can
you see what has happened? The world has ‘salted’ the church instead of
the other way around, in spite of the increase of Christian resources.
How can the church change the world for Christ when the world sees the
church as irrelevant to the real world? Especially when the church is
viewed as not even believing what it’s supposed to believe? Ask
yourself, ‘How many church or para-church organizations do you know of
that take an uncompromising stand like AiG’s?’" {Why doesn’t the church taste good any more?}
These
men are right on. If we are so preoccupied in trying to look like
the world in order to win them over for Christ when will we ever have
time to truly witness? We are told to get "Christianized tatoo's"
to show the world our faith, again, who is influencing who here?
Whatever happened to the fruit of the Spirit? A tree is known by
it's fruit not it's tatoo and there we go again looking at the exterior
and not at the heart. A believer whose heart is focused on Jesus
will lead a life that reflects Christ and good fruit.

No doubt when the church starts chipping away at scripture it opens itself up to compromise of all sorts. The end result is apostacy. This is not a new phenom. It started long time ago w/ the so called "church fathers". They chipped away at the foundation of scripture, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. They erred deeply because they did not understand the scriptures, 2Peter3:16,17. For this the church has earned her derision from the world. Christendom is unstable and a mess. She has become a joke and it is not because of her righteousness that she is persecuted by the world. So many are seeking after Truth, yet cannot find it. The Faithful have been blinded by the doctrines of men. Believer's must repent and forsake following men and look to God alone. They must accept ALL scripture as the inspiration of God and that ALL of it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Dr. Ham rightly defends and proclaims the inspiration of Genesis. Therefore we must be consistent in this line of defense for the scriptures and defend Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Many churchmen may not understand the books of Moses and how they apply to us today. But God says "Lean not on your own understanding" (most likely includes other men's understanding as well). We must trust God and His word. He is the same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Thank you, Lord! For You alone are trustworthy!
Blessings in Messiah,
Kristee

Feb. 18, 2006 - So true!

Our family had the opportunity to attend a weekend AIG conference a couple of years ago and its impact on us was profound. I was already convinced of a literal transaltion of Genesis, but had never really comprehended the damage that has been done to the chuch and our culture as a result of the lie of evolution. I am very grateful to Ken Ham and everyone else at AIG and other similar ministries who are willing to stand against the tide.

i was having a similar discussion with my pastor about that about a week ago. obviously pastors are just human too and rather than researching the truth themselves (as many of us lay people are negligent to do as well) they pass along whatever their association promotes and we believe it. it should be a lesson to all of us who were taught that evolution can be worked into the bible that we should read and discern the bible for ourselves.

Here! Here! I agree that sometimes the church is the one being salted. Good post. We need to hear such clear, concise arguments.

oops...I think I read part two before part one. Oh well...I heard a great quote once. The lady said a good deal of the problem with Christianity today is that we continually ask how close we can get to the world and still be "ok." But we need to be asking how close we can get to the Lord.

You are so right! We do not need to look like the world to attract the world. The world is tired of the world-- they are looking for something different. We need to be ourselves and preach the Word of God. His Word doesn't return void.
I love the story of "The Cross and the Switchblade". David Wilkerson went as he was to New York's inner city and led gang members to Christ by preaching the Word.
