Combating Compromise - Music to my Ears?
Posted in A Day the Lord Made
I've decided to make each Tuesday the time when I will post on issues of compromise in the church. I'm entitling this weekly series "Combating Compromise".
Many of the prayerful responses that were contributed had shown me that
it would be beneficial to post an entry on this topic once a
week. I will be letting those of you who responded know about
this post and that each Tues. it will be open for discussion here on my
blog. Gottsegnet also had a good suggestion about submitting the topic
as a carnival and I will be in prayer about it.
In this Tuesday's entry on compromise, I want to talk about an area where I believe there is MUCH neglect *and* MUCH focus and
is responsible for some of the compromise in the church. What am I
talking about? Let me ask you a couple of questions........
- Within
most churches on Sunday morning, how do we normally begin the service
before the Pastor delivers the sermon? How do we usually close
the service?
- What do most of the young people engage in on sometimes a daily if not hourly basis?
Do you know the answer? It's MUSIC and SONG
Again,
this is not an area where *most* Christian homeschoolers have a problem
but it is a growing trend among the body of Christ for both youth and
adults no matter if your child is in ps or private and it IS beginning
to affect homeschooled students as well.
We are all susceptible to this kind of deception, music is everywhere
and has the power to influence us for good or for evil. The Lord
in His word tells us:
Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be
any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
We need to be on guard as what we put into our eyes and ears can affect our thoughts and spiritual life.
"Casting
down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against
the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the
obedience of Christ." II Corinthians 10:5
Most parents don't understand the depths
and the lengths that the devil will go through in an attempt to cause
us to fall and 2nd guess the Gospel. Some of us view music as a
harmless means of entertainment aside from worship in song during
church. Oh really, is it JUST that? Guess again. Some may argue
that it's all of the heavy metal that's bad, that is the type of music
that the devil uses. Oh really? What do the innocent
sounding pop songs cause us to think about? Self? Lust? Greed?
Are these good?
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6
How
much does it take, listening to the wrong thing? When does it begin to
cause compromise? Will your children stand firm when approached with a
few harmless songs to give a listen to? I have a few tools that I will
share with you next time, tools that we are using to combat another ill
tide that brings a wave of compromise.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord!
In His Love, Cathy

good ideas...I like our current church's music program..not our old one's...that one was all stuff from klove...which I won't get into, but it bothered me in church although not in the car. Of course, that pastor also showed clips from The Matrix to illustrate a point about faith...complete with taking the Lord's name in vain a dozen times (don't know there is a clip in that movie that does not do that.) The pastor disagreed with our objections: 1) There is nothing Christian about the movie...it is, in fact, antithetical to the Christian message. 2) Christians probably should be avoiding such nonsense in their private lives and the church should be assisting in that, not promoting it. 3) A parent should feel comfortable about having their children with them in service. I was never so thankful to have made a last minute decision to just put my daughter in the nursery. I could go on, but we left.

Good idea. I posted about compromise in TV watching yesterday in a blog about Focus on the Family. Here's the link

It's so sad when those trusted to give advice to the next generation compromise. UGH!

Feb. 28, 2006 - Update on Emily...
Posted by DandelionSeeds
I just received word from a friend of Crystal’s (Emily’s Mom) that I’ve posted on my blog. I also stopped by to see how things were going with Candace, and she’s not doing well.
Thanks so much for your prayers.

Mar. 1, 2006 - checking in

I am just checking in to see what's going on in your area this morning.
I enjoyed your post. It reminded me of the nursery school song:
Oh, be careful little ears, what you hear
Oh, be careful little ears, what you hear
For the Father Up above,
Is looking down in love,
So be careful little ears
what you hear.

Mar. 1, 2006 - So true

It is so true that Satan can use many things to deceive us. God creates and Satan distorts, it seems, every time. We have seen countless churches split over the issue of "praise songs" vs. "hymns", or choirs vs. praise teams. Our church is once again starting a youth choir after years of not having one, we will be in fervent prayer over the kids involved being used of God and not influenced by Satan. Praise is a beautiful thing, I LOVE praise and worship time, but you are right that we need to be paying very serious attention to what our kids are listening to, regardless of where it is coming from, why our kids are listening to whatever they are listening to, and how they are reacting to any music!

We are so disgusted with all contemporary music on the radio...we don't even turn it on Our kids don't miss it. DS listens to instrumental piano music and a few christian-country songs and that's it. You're right, the songs sound catch with a fun tune, but the message...no thank you!! And, I don't think our children miss the music. Plus, if the music isn't bad...the dj's are terrible...the things they discuss!!
