Creative Play Bilingual Homeschool

Bilingual homeschooling radio show

Well, I've decided to just jump in with both feet and get started. On Wednesday, April 23rd, at 8:30 am MST, I will have an opening radio show for 30 minutes. I don't expect calls, I'll just relate how we got started homeschooling, especially attempting a dual-language program at home. I'm hoping getting started will help me figure out how to keep going.

I have some ideas, but I wanted/need interaction with others. I get a few ideas from the message board posts that I respond to. There is chat capability on Blog Talk Radio as well.

So, hopefully, pressing the Play button on the right side of this page after Wednesday, will actually have something to play.

Yes! Isn't that exciting!
Of course you are invited to participate, and I was thinking....maybe with a radio show in Spanish...or not.

Anyways, educandoenfamilia.com is hosting la Primera Edicion del Carnaval Educando en Familia and we would love to hear what you have to share with us, you know on bilingual education and all.

The info is on my blog. Hope we can read you there.

Hi Renai,

Thank you for stopping by and commenting on my blog.

I applaud you for homeschooling and doing it bilingually. Keep it up!

One thing that has always fascinated me is how English-speakers become fluent in Spanish (or any other language). So I'm very interested to learn how you became fluent in Spanish. Why did you choose to learn Spanish? When did you begin learning it? What kind of exposure did you get? How long would you say it took for you to become fluent?

I'm teaching my children Spanish. My Spanish knowledge is decent when it comes to simple writing, reading, vocabulary and teaching my kids. It's speaking and comprehending spoken Spanish that gets me. Just today I was telling my husband I don't know if I'll ever be bilingual. And he just asked me if I was pushing and challenging myself enough. So I'll admit, there's more that I can do. And I will.

I hope we keep in touch. Visit and comment on my blog any time: www.spanish-lesson-plans-for-children.blogspot.com. I started it for parents like me, monolingual parents who want their children to learn Spanish and need guidance on how to get started, how to keep it going and how to make it fun.

This is a great idea but there aren't any episodes listed beyond April 2008. Will you resume the show when the summer is over?

I'm hoping to start back up again in September. Maybe I should use Jessica's idea and do an episode about how "I" got started. I've been speaking Spanish so long, sometimes I forget I'm considered a non-native speaker, lol! There are lots of folks like me, and bilingual homeschooling still works. I'm a big believer, can you tell?

Keep the ideas coming. I'd like the show to serve YOU, the bilingual homeschooler.

Oh, and I enjoy all your blogs!
