I just learned that a ruling in California has been passed that makes it virtually illegal to homeschool in that state. Because one family had problems, they decided to make a blanket ruling that covers all homeschoolers in California. The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has a petition to repeal the ruling and make it applicable to only the family involved, and not all California homeschoolers. There is a link to the HSLDA petition and more information at Family Reformation. I encourage you all to sign the petition whether you live in California or homeschool or not. Precedent has been set. If this state ruling is allowed to stand, what will the courts try to take from us next?
I really think the only thing that will help is to rewrite CA law... but I signed the petition. We homeschool in CA through a charter school, partly because the law is so restrictive to do it on your own! We are taking about doing it ourselves after next year though... I'm really thankful my mother lives with us and is a credentialed teacher!
