Surprise! I won a giveaway!
Last Friday I found out about the "Ultimate Blog Party Week" and hurried to look at several participating blogs and enter drawings for their giveaways that appealed to me. I was pleasantly surprised to have my comment drawn for Sonbeams Giveaway #1 - download of their ABC Memory Verse Songs and 26 week membersip. Friday was the last day to enter that particular giveaway, so I was floored that my name was selected!
I had seen the Sonbeams website and liked what I saw, but was not in a position to purchase anything at present. Now I have the pleasure of listening to the ABC Bible Verse songs with my children, and using the 26 week membership in our home learning. God is good!

Book Review: "Hand that Rocks the Cradle"
Have you ever found it difficult to find quality stories for your children? Or maybe you've heard of a title but have no idea what it's about or if the subject would interest your child. Perhaps you remember books from your youth but don't know if they'd be suitable for your child's age or reading level. If any of the above apply to you I think you will find "Hand that Rocks the Cradle" by Nathaniel Bluedorn very helpful.
"Hand that Rocks the Cradle" is a selection of 400 classic books for children listed by author. Each title includes a suggested reading level, the time and location of the story, publication date and a brief summary of the book - without spoiling the ending. I found numerous titles I knew and enjoyed listed as well as others I had not read or heard of. It does not list every title by each author, but it is an excellent starting point for those wanting to find good books for their children. Not all authors or titles will appeal to everyone, but there is a wide range of choices to begin with.
I found "Hand that Rocks the Cradle" interesting and informative. I believe parents will find it a helpful reference tool as they search for good stories to share with their children.

Homeschooling in California
I just learned that a ruling in California has been passed that makes it virtually illegal to homeschool in that state. Because one family had problems, they decided to make a blanket ruling that covers all homeschoolers in California. The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has a petition to repeal the ruling and make it applicable to only the family involved, and not all California homeschoolers. There is a link to the HSLDA petition and more information at Family Reformation. I encourage you all to sign the petition whether you live in California or homeschool or not. Precedent has been set. If this state ruling is allowed to stand, what will the courts try to take from us next?
