Keeping It Together
May. 16, 2006
Let the games begin!

I've been reading about these Blubber Bloggers for several weeks now.  Today's post on The Company Porch finally pushed me over the edge.   I did it.  I joined in.  Gulp.

My whole family is overweight, and now my children are getting there.  They aren't obese....yet.  But I can see them traveling down that path.  I don't want them to be as unhealthy as I am.  However, I think I'll have to take it slow with them.  I have been introducing healthier breads and such and I will just continue on that path.  Only I will be slipping in healthier stuff a little more than I have been.  Ok, maybe a lot more.  Anyway, it is going to be a hard road with them, I'm afraid.

My focus will be mostly on myself.  However, we are off to a decent start.  As a family, we walked around the circle today.  (we live in the middle of a circle.)  Turns out, according my pedometer, the circle is 1/2 mile!  Whoohoo!  We are going to do this every day, weather permitting.  Eventually we plan on expanding to more and more laps.  Yay!!

I had a healthy bfast and am now chugging water.  I *will* accomplish this.  I lost 65 lbs a few years ago and now have gained 55 of those back.  I did it in an unhealthy manner and obviously didn't make any true lifestyle changes.  This time I will do it right.  And this time my family is (somewhat) doing it with me.

My hubby has read a few articles on youth obesity and how it is OUR responsibility to teach them.  And he is in agreement with me.  This is new.  It is usually just me.

So, as our crew shrinks together, I will be posting on here about our struggles and triumphs.

This morning I will list our triumphs so far...

  • deciding to make a change
  • DH deciding to join in
  • walking 1/2 mile as a family
  • drinking lots of water
  • starting a diet journal
  • joining Blubber Bloggers for inspiration

Let the games begin!!

Good Job! We've tried to change our eating habits as well, but our family members continue to bring junk to our children, and of course we eat it too! We are striving for healthy eating all the time, but it is so expensive! We'll keep you accountable- just keep posting :)

I'm going to send you an email now as well about KY! :)

May. 19, 2006 - Tonight's chat

Posted by iluvtheland

Hi there,

I'm just visiting all the Blubber Blogger's Blogs and reminding them about the online chat tonight with Jeannie Fulbright. If you are interested, just make sure you have AOL Instant Messenger (you can download a free version on the AOL site) and email me you screen name so I can invite you to the chatroom (my email is mkin@udata.com). Be sure to put CHAT in the subject line so I don't miss you!

If you have any questions for Jeannie, if you could send them to me ahead of time, it would help her be able to answer better, but you can ask questions tonight, too. I hope that you can make it :-) In case you missed it, Jeannie's guest lecture is on our Blubber Blogger Blog.

Hugs,
Kathy

Thanks for commenting on my blog! My idea was making something like an ebook, that had sections for each style of homeschooling, and then having maybe 7 different families write something about it in each section. Is this similar to what Lisa Welchel did? If so, I don't want do something that has already been done.

God Bless!
Ali
