What led to your decision to homeschool?

Week2

Surprising enough I didn't want to fight the public school! I had felt like I had fought it all my school time and I didn't want to do it with my son. We looked at a Christian School and I couldn't believe the price! You see, I didn't think I was qualified to teach my son because I never got my college degree! I got married instead. I thought the law said you had to have a degree, I didn't know that was state laws! I was at a ladies Bible study and asked for prayers on what we were going to do because I knew in my heart it wasn't right to send him off to school. One of the ladies, who I knew homeschooled but she had a college degree ask me, "Why don't you homeschool him?" I then when in to why I wasn't qualified and she sent me to HSLDA web site! I called my husband and yelled, "We can do this!" because you see we live in Texas, the greatest state to homeschool in my opinion.

But then, God started speaking to my heart. I know He wanted us to make this decision for the right reasons, the reasons that would glorify him. So after much prayer my dh and I agreed this is what we wanted to do. We reminded ourselves that before we had gotten married we had talked about homeschooling but that had been over 18 years ago!  It was important to us to sit down and get a vision of why we wanted to homeschool.

Our verse we stand on is 1 Timothy 1:5 "The goal of our instruction is love, from a pure heart and a good conscience and  a sincere faith." We knew this would only happen if we taught our son at home. We still stand on this today. Each year our son gets a completion certificate with this verse on it!

There has not been a time in the last 5 years that we have wavered or wondered. We believe that this is the journey God has for us and we plan to enjoy every moment of it! Where else but at home would our son thrive in his interests, learn to live as a loving family and most of all be taught the tools to be a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 Be blessed richly today!

I love the idea of giving a completion certificate with a meaningful scripture verse on it. Very special!

I thought I would send my kids to private school, too. The cost scared me to my knees and the Lord showed how we could homeschool. Then, circumstances led us to make a decision... Praise God! Thanks for your post.

Beautiful...and it is great that you sat down and got a vision before starting. I have one now, but then? Ha! I was camping out, waiting for the agreed one year to be up so I could put her back in school.

Guess God works in mysterious ways.

What's funny, last year - it was the cost of Christian Schools (not counting uniform costs & school supplies and fundraisers) that kept us homeschooling. I'm ever more confident that homeschooling is where we need to be. Though it's not easy. :-)
I wish i could say I've never wavered or wondered.
I liked your post!
