• Sep. 2, 2008 - Special Needs Information

My husband and I have only 1 child.  He will be 9 years old next month.  When he was 4 years old he was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.  He also has NVLD (Nonverbal Language Disorder), SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder), and ADHD.  We wanted more kids but we have not had any success with that yet.  I guess they will come in God's timing.   If not, adoption is always an option too.

Since my son was diagnosed I have done a whole lot of research in the last 4 years.  Here are some links I like to visit to educate myself on things related to my sons special needs:

Thanks for the link Suzanne. My son sounds like her son in many ways. He is a very sensitive child too. He cries when he's in trouble because he thinks you're not his friend anymore. We have to constantly reasure him of our love. He also has low tolerance. He would get upset if he didn't do something right the first time and was asked to do it over. He is very literal and easily misunderstands jokes or how to make one himself. Transitions were hard for him when he was younger (especially at school). He would cry when things changed. We have learned to prepare him ahead of time and now things go much smoother. And he said school was too noisy and there are too many people. He doesn't want to go back because he likes the peace at home. We're able to move forward or slow down at his pace with what he is learning. He's enjoying it and so are my husband and I. It's like going back to school all over again, but we're teaching and learning alongside our son :-)

• Sep. 6, 2008 - another great special needs site

I discovered this organization from a homeschool convention I attended. Here is a quick description and weblink: http://www.headsupnow.com/
"Heads Up! is a company designed to provide expert information and products for special needs children. Our items have been selected to accommodate various learning styles and strengths, regardless of curriculum used. These special needs products have been found to be especially helpful for children who are distractible or hyperactive."
I have used several of her tips and activities I learned from her workshop and they work well with my Aspergers/ADHD kid! I hope it helps you in some way too!
Thanks and God Bless!

Interesting Angie. Looks like a lot of the same things that Linda Hodgdon uses. I love getting her newsletters. Have you heard of her? I forgot to post her link before, but now it's up there in the list.

My 5 year old son has autism. He started kindergarten this year. He loves lapbooks and file folder games. I love all your lapbooks, they are so much fun! How old is your son? Is he your only child? May the Lord bless you this homeschool year!

Thank you for those kind words :-) May the Lord bless your homeschool too. My son just turned 9 years old on Oct. 22nd. He loves doing lapbooks. He retains so much from doing them. He wants to lapbook everything. Yes he is my only child. We want more but that hasn't happened yet :-(

Through our homeschooling journey I wish to encourage and share resources as well as wisdom that would be of help to the homeschooling community. By bringing our academy to the public, we hope to gather more insight and information from other homeschool families, who have already walked the path that we are now on. I welcome your ideas and suggests that will help us as we educate our son more about God and His calling on his life.
