You may be asking the question "What are homophones"?
Homo means same and phone means sound, so the word homophone literally means same sound. Homophones are two or more words that sound alike but are spelled differently and have different meanings.
Marie Rippel from All About Spelling has come up with a new product. It's called All About Homophones: Your Complete Tool Kit .

The kit includes: graphic organizers, worksheets, crossword puzzles, tongue twisters, card games, riddles and puns, as well as student record sheets.
You can use homophones to teach reading, writing, and vocabulary. This kit can be used for children in 1st-8th grades. This is great for us because my son is a 3rd grader so we will have lots to pick and choose from for years to come.
Those with families with children of different ages won't need to order one for each of their children. The e-book is in PDF format so you can print off as many as you like for your different age groups.
The hard copy of All about Homophones sells for $29.95. They also have it in e-book (PDF) format for $27.95. My son enjoyed doing his activities each week because he loves learning about homophones. I really believe your children will have fun while learning these sets of words and their meanings with the card games. My son surely did. The types of games you can play are Pig, Go Fish, Old Maid, Memory, and more.
If your kids are looking for even more fun ways to learn homophones, be sure to check out the FREE online Homophone Machine. My son likes making up silly sentences to put in the machine. He gets on it for over 30 minutes non stop. He would go longer but mom needs her laptop back to do work of her own. I have to say I'm impressed with all Marie has put together in this kit. It's well worth the money and what the kids learn will definately stick with them.
*Note: In celebration of their new book they're offering $10.00 off the price now through Monday, Feb. 2, 2009. Just enter the coupon code "FUN" in the customer code box during checkout. |
