It's Memorial Day weekend. Many of you have started planning for the summer. Here's an easy side dish to use as you start up the grilling season. Feel free to tweak the recipe to your own liking. Traditional crock pot Baked Beans
Ingredients:
3-4 (15 oz) cans of Pork n' beans
3 strips of bacon
1 small onion, diced
1/2 of a large bell pepper, diced
1/4-1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 tsp. prepared yellow mustard
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (can also mix with 1/2 cup of ketchup)
1 tsp. liquid smoke seasoning (optional)
Directions:
Cook bacon until crisp. Drain then crumble. Drain the cans of pork n' beans and pour into a 5 quart crock pot. Add bacon, onion, and bell pepper. Stir ingredients. Mix together the brown sugar, mustard, barbecue sauce, and liquid smoke in a small bowl. Pour over the beans and gently mix everything together. Cover and cook on the LOW heat for 5 to 6 hours.
Stir and serve hot as a side dish with grilled hamburgers or hotdogs, and coleslaw, or potato salad.
