This week in our study of the Midwestern states is Indiana.  The capital of Indiana is Indianapolis. Did you know the word Indiana means "land of the Indians"?  Indians lived in Indiana before the 1st French explorers arrived. We found a delicious recipe to go with our study of Indiana...
Indiana Butterscotch Pie
INGREDIENTS:
  • 1-1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 cups milk
  • Baked pie crust
For Meringue:
  • 2 egg whites
  • pinch salt
  • 2 Tbsp confectioner's sugar
  • Dash vanilla
PREPARATION:
Put brown sugar and butter in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until melted. Add flour, salt, egg yolks and milk. Cook in double boiler until thick. Pour into baked pie crust.
To Prepare the Meringue:
Beat all ingredients together with mixer until soft peaks form.
Top pie with meringue and bake in oven until meringue turns light brown.

If you are from Indiana please share a recipe with us to try. I'll be back next week to tell you about the last of the Midwestern states we are studying.  Do you know which one it is?

I'm so glad I came by! I had trouble accessing your blog from the TOS Crew Yahoo Group. We live in Indiana. It's kind of funny that I wouldn't know if a recipe is specifically from Indiana, though. We downloaded the free Autumn Treasures e-book from TOS, and it talks about Johnny Appleseed. I am the bad homeschool mom - my kids didn't know he was from around here! Oops! Now we're going to study him, and they'll never forget.

Be blessed,
Danielle

Hmmm...I wonder if I should try to head on over to TOS crew blog and see if my links are still working. No you are not a bad moma. Maybe you just haven't got around to teaching that yet :0
Glad you stopped by. I pop in to your blog every now and then. I'd better leave a comment next time so you will know I did.

Through our homeschooling journey I wish to encourage and share resources as well as wisdom that would be of help to the homeschooling community. By bringing our academy to the public, we hope to gather more insight and information from other homeschool families, who have already walked the path that we are now on. I welcome your ideas and suggests that will help us as we educate our son more about God and His calling on his life.
