It's not the suit

Posted in Mentors
As I waited for my one hour photos to print last night, I noticed a young man in a tee-shirt all over the CVS once I put down the book and moved on to cute cards.  He was everywhere, giving directions to customers, cheerful orders to other workers, zooming hand carts around.

At first I thought, "what a lot of initiative that boy has, for some one who just stocks the shelves."  Then when he noticed me waiting for the photos, and jumped in to check me out, two workers came by to ask him advise.  Turns out he's the assistant manager, he had phoned in to see how the store was doing, thought that too many people were out sick and jumped in to make the store run better.  When I saw him up close, he was my brother in law's age, the tee shirt made me think he was younger.  Then I read the tee shirt: how many High school kids are in the army reserve?   Come to think of it, I only think of my brothers in law as young because they are younger than me!  Well, it's not the clothes that make the manager, that store was humming along, and I got my photos in about 30 min (and my handsoap, the official reason I was there).

I hope I lead like that, it's not the suit that makes the manager.  I want to be willing to jump in and do what needs to be done to get the job done.
