Some Assembly Required....

Mar. 21, 2007 - Deja Vu

It's been two weeks since our last bout of family illness and about another two or so weeks before that. We appear to be stuck in a round-about  because my son is sick again and my daughter has the sniffles. Remind me two weeks from now, to signal my way out of this thing, would ya? We had fun plans this weekend to visit friends who live close by, but whom we have not seen for months, too. Darn-it! I have felt like I have had way too many extras going on during the past couple weeks anyway, and I am already starting to fall a little behind, but I was really looking forward to seeing them.

I have not yet implimented my new routine that I've worked out using The Managers of Their Home series, but nothing about the past two weeks has been routine. I'm going to at least pretend tomorrow and see how it goes.

Today my girls both had their first visit with the dentist and did very, very well. My sickly little man was a bit of a different story though and could care less that I was trying to hold him (because they wanted me in the room with the girls) while attempting to both complete two sets of paper work , and talk on my cell phone with my insurance provider because they could not verify that my insurance information was correct. He just did not feel well and that was all that mattered to him. In the middle of all this my girls had us all laughing. Their room was a split one with two chairs and two techs. They each wore bright yellow shades and all my six year old wanted to do was talk, talk, talk.  From a distance she would call over, "How ya doin' Eilidh!?"-" I've got a window over here, do you have a window?!" Meanwhile, Eilidh had the Tech's hand in her mouth.

When the dentist finally came in he asked Asher how old she was, and when she answered that she was six he inevitably asked about school.

"Are you in first grade?"

"Yes."

"Do you like school?'

"Yes."

At this point I sort of wondered where this was going, as Asher can be a bit of a good natured, well, smart-Ash. So I wondered if she was trying to pull one over on the dentist.

"What school do you go to?'

"I homeschool."

Whew, at least I know now she's not playing games.

"Did your mommy give you the day off today?"

Asher laughs,"I ALWAYS have the day off!"

Uh. Oh.

This is where he began to question her about what she's learning, just in case. I have been more of an un-schooler this year so it made me a bit nervous. She passed both the dental exam and oral exam with flying colors though, and after she told him all about words, numbers, and some of her favorite stories, all was well again. Mostly I think he was impressed that my girls seemed genuinly excited about X-Rays and people looking around in their mouths.

I tried to get home quickly so we could still have an 'at home day' which, as I mentioned, has been a little too rare. My son was already sleeping in the back seat and needed to be put to bed. As I pulled into my drive-way though I realized that my house key was still on the kitchen counter from the day before when I gave it to the kids to let themselves in ahead of me. So back out we went. I ended up eating out (something we are trying NOT to do) with my husband so he could pass me a key, and then I just had to stop by the grociery store to pick up a few 'quick' things I knew we needed anyway (which we all know is never quick when you are a pregnant woman with three kids) since we were already close by. Needless to say, it was not an at home day at all.

For those of you who have been keeping up on my 'Truths and Lies', you will not be too suprised when I tell you that the best advice I received today was from my fortune cookie at lunch. It said, and I quote:  "A new pair of shoes will do you a world of good!"

Beautiful! I considered stopping by the shoe store right after groceries. Hey, the day was already a gonner anyway, right?  Then I got wise and realized that someone somewhere was just telling me what I wanted to hear.

Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with sickness again. I hope no one else gets it and that you are over it soon. Your dentist trip sounds like fun :)

We use MOTH as well, I just finished a new schedule and will be trying it out soon - I hope it works because I don't like having to conitnually redo it!

Stay away from me, I don't want anymore germs. I find that getting into a routine and sticking is more of a fairy tale than a reality. Anyway I hope that the illness goes away.

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment! You are SO right about the nails on the chalkboard! How did I miss that? WOW! I hate that sound/feeling. It's more of a feeling for me -- it makes my very teeth shudder (if that's possible).

I was going to subscribe to your blog via bloglines, but you don't publish an RSS. If you'd like to allow folks to keep up with you through feed readers (like what the old Friend's page was sort of), then you need to enable your RSS or site feed. Check it out. :-)

I'd like to read your blog regularly, but Bloglines is my only efficient way to keep up with all the cool blogs out there.

We are in YWAM in Cimarron, Colorado. We were in Guatemala 3 months last year. We just had our 4th child in November, and overseas work doesn't seem to be in God's plan for us in the near future. I do have some posts that tell a little bit about how we got to where we are...I'll have to find them for you.
