Some Assembly Required....

Aug. 10, 2007 - Suggestion Box

143_4355.jpg picture by cutterbugI don't mean to question God's design for things, but I would love it if sleep (and eating for that matter) were simply optional once you arrived at adulthood. Wouldn't it be great? You could put your kiddos to bed and then have twelve hours to accomplish the 'need to get done list' and then once they awoke you could be free to focus all your attention their direction until their next bed time. I'm thinking of shooting a proposal His way. While I'm at it, maybe now would be a good time to suggest having three sets of teeth over a lifetime too. That first set gets used for such a short time. It would be much better if we could spread the wear out evenly instead of having to make that second pair last so long. Losing that set somewhere  after the age of twenty-nine would certainly add to the amusement of the thiry-something dating scene at the very least. I mean, if someone could love you without your two fwont teef then you would know they were a keeper, right? Okay, I suppose I have digressed a bit.

Now, about sleep-I have not been doing it. And not just for the obvious fact that I have a newborn in the house either (He is only getting me up once a night). The real culprit is the elusive quiet house. Is it my fault that the only time this enigma is not beyond grasp is when my eyes are suppose to be closed? The past few nights I have found myself gazing up at the clock to discover that it is somewhere around 2:00 am. Not horrible if you are a life long night-owl, as does run in my family.  Very bad when you know 2:00am is just an hour from when your baby will be wanting to eat(and there is no sense in lying down, only to be awoken in an hour so you might as well stay up), which is only three hours from when the next child will decide it's time to start their day. So what is a girl to do? I guess the quiet house will have to wait. That is, unless God decides to take me up on my proposal. For now I think it would be safest just to get to bed a little earlier.

Oh, this post brings it all back!! But in a nice kind of way. Tiring, but nice. And now that I can have all the sleep I want, I find myself waking up earlier and earlier...

I totally know what you mean. When I went back to work 3 nights a week when the baby was 3 months, I found myself up in the middle of the night for no good reason. My body was adjusting to my crazy late nights at work and trying to adjust to the baby getting up so early. Crazy times. A few months later, and thankfully it's gone away. For the most part.

that is one cute picture!

but no, i would not like it if sleep were optional... well, i guess it would be ok if it were truly optional -- i would regularily opt in, because i *love* to sleep and i have the most interesting dreams all the time, so it's entertaining for me, as well. um. i think i put a little too much thought into this.

Hey if you have some petition to sign, or mass prayer session, I'm in. Especially when it comes to the suggestion of three sets of teeth. Lord knows I need another set and I'd really prefer REAL ones.

Hope you get some rest. BTW - Love the little cotton candy face!
