Some Assembly Required....

Mar. 22, 2008 - My life Wthout Photos

My computer is still a pitiful little thing, so I'm getting a quick blogging fix elsewhere. What I want to share is somewhat photo intensive too but where I am blogging from does permit such a luxury; and so I shall not be too picky. I never knew I was the sort that could not get through her reading/writing without pictorial aids, but it appears that I am given that I feel a bit naked just now.

But moving on.

My Husband and I got to go out of town BY OURSELVES weekend before last and it was a wonderful thing. We went to a funeral, true, but it was the closest thing to a date we have had in a long time.

And we needed it. I enjoyed seeing all like 300+ of my husband's friends and mostly relations and especially enjoyed the adult car time. I am a total people watcher so I payed pretty close attention to the dynamics of the group and even found out that one of my children's very distant relatives (circa 1853-1921) was once the President of the NEA . My apologies up front for that one. Every time I think about it I chuckle. Oh, the irony.

Anyway, we did not want to be rushed so we drove to Portland the night before and put our well spent $60 towards a stay HERE. I want to take you on tour, but I have to wait for my photos so it could be a while. This is the second McMenamins we have stayed at. This one used to be The Multnoma County Poor Farm back in its day and the one in our area was a Catholic school when I was a little girl. Very fun, very historic, and sort of redemptive. I like that.

Yes, the timing of this trip was good. I have been feeling bad lately and the 'fresh air,' so to speak, did me some good. You may or may not recall that I recently found out that my thyroid is wacky. Well, this being so, it has put me on the exhausted, less-sunny-than-normal side of life the past several months. I have felt like I imagine people with mono would feel.I was convined I had mono.

Well, when we first discovered it was my thyroid the attending doctor stated that my thyroid was a 'little off' and silly me, I took him literally. But I just had my follow-up with my own doctor and when the nurse pulled up my records on the little computer thingy she made a funny sound that was a bit like "OH!" but squeekier. When I said 'What?' she told me my thyroid THS level was 17.9. I had to have her translate for me because I had no idea what she was talking about and then she informed my that 5 was considered to be high on the ol'THS scale.

Yeah, just a 'little off', ya think?!?

I have been SO 'off'. As in forgetting to pay the garbage bill and remembering only after being thwarted in trying to remove stinky diapers from the home. Uhhh..where did my can go? As in thinking about what I am going to say and then selecting the wrong word in the sequence to start off my sentences. Hmmm... I think I'll begin with the fourth word; just to mix things up a bit. As in, maybe sending my children off to public school isn't such a bad idea because I really could use a nap.

The fact that I recognize that as crazy gives me hope. Craziness, even if their Great-Uncle-Wunkle-Punkle WAS President of the NEA.

Besides, if my kids were in school then I couldn't rightly hang around at Homeschool Blogger now could I? And THAT would be crazy because being 'with' you guys makes me feel normal.

But I probably should not have said that though, should I?

Sorry.

With a thyroid like that, I'm impressed you can write a funny and coherent post! ;-) You're just trying to impress the NEA.

The previous comment made me laugh!

Sprry you and your thyroid aren't working well together.
Glad you got some time together with your husband. Even if it was for a funeral.... =/
And I was gonna say that I'm sorry there was a funeral but that would negate the happy time for you and your husband.
I'll stop now. I'm just confusing myself.
And what was that about feeling normal at HSB??!!

Yikes! That is pretty off there...

My m-i-l had thyroid issues but her doctor kept saying "Well, you are getting older." Why is it that when women say something is wrong, many doctors attribute it to getting older but when a man says there is something wrong, they quickly run a battery of tests?

Anyhoo! My m-i-l noticed something was wrong when she started forgetting things, getting irritable (at things that normally would never irritate her) and always feeling hot (as in the sweaty kind, not the vavavoom kind). ;-)

I'm glad we make you feel normal! It's nice to not be the only crazy around, isn't it?

Love,
Marsha

hmmm. Many tragic things in this post. Tragic that you're not feeling up to par. Tragic that you even THOUGHT about popping your kids in p.s. just to take a nap. (although many o' good mama has thought as much)
Tragic that you can't post pictures and WAY tragic that you would leave us h.s. bloggers w/o you.

After being away from blogging for 2 weeks it was killing me. I just felt like I had missed out on everyone's lives. And after 2+ years of reading someones blogs (in some cases) they're like your friends!

I have been awol myself but I don't have nearly enough exciting reasons like yours.... funerals, thyroid problems..... thinking that hsb is the standard for normality...... :D

I hope you get to post pictures soon!

Hi Wacky Friend!

Aren't you glad to know that there is a plausible explanation for your condition, though?!

I bet in a few weeks you'll be back to (somewhat) normal again.

As for the picture posting ordeal, you *know* I feel your pain! URG!

Ummm, I don't think it's fair to blame your poor old thyroid for all of this. I really think that something comes with the fourth child that eats our brains and drives us insane.

I think it's funny that you got to get away "for a funeral". I have found myself looking forward to going to the dr. just so I can have some alone time. I even get there early to catch up on my magazine reading.

And I can totally relate to the public school thing. I was having a particularly rough week when the California courts ruled that homeschooling was not a legal way of educating our kids and I had a little fantasy of my kids going off to school and me sleeping on the couch. Sad huh?

Anyways I hope you get things straightened out with the old thyroid.

Love,

Wow-you had a lot of news to share. I'm glad you got some time away, even if it was for a funeral. We actually had that experience once-where a funeral was almost like a date. I'm so glad to know we're not the only ones.
I hope your computer gets fixed soon. That's kind of scary about your thyroid. I sure hope you begin to feel better very soon and I'm so glad you know the reason behind feeling "off."
A little off, huh? I wonder why he didn't explain that a little better-sheesh.
It was good to catch up with you-I've not had a lot of blog time lately, so I've been keeping up with writing journal entries mostly, but haven't done a lot of visisting. I've missed it! Holly

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! But isn't normal is over-rated? Well, at least I've always strove for originality. However, a normal thyroid level is probably healthier than an abnormal one. I did have a friend whose thyroid was as high as yours. She lost a TON of weight, but finally got her levels back in check while still keeping off the weight. Also, just a thought... don't make any drastic decisions until your levels are back to normal. :) Aren't hormones wonderful??? Take care, lots of prayers, and much needed blessings to you,
:)Michelle

Hey lady!

I am happy for you that you had a little adult time with your hubby, albeit a funeral. Hey, I'd be thankful for anywhere...almost!

Sorry to hear about your thyroid. I'm supposed to go have mine checked too. Does it make really make you forgetful? Cuase I need an excuse like that. Without one, I'll have to admit I'm getting old!

I love this post. I am sorry to hear about your thyroid. I don't know how you did anything with it that high! How is the recovering going? I hear it takes awhile to adjust to the right meds. Thanks for commenting. I really struggled with our life for a long time, wishing for a beautiful house in the subarbs where I could live forever. But, I have finally come around. I am really looking forward to our trip to India. I have always admired Mother Teresa. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be her. Now, I'll get to visit her tomb and learn more about her life there in Calcutta. I hope my boys will look back and be grateful for their life. They really miss America.
