| Aug. 31, 2005 - The Bryan Duncan Concert |
Was so amazing! It
was such an intimate setting, a perfect date night concert! Bryan was
hilarious. The concert was in a small hispanic church (we're talking
sqeezing to fit 300 people) in a strip shopping center in Austin. It
wasn't even a full house after the concert started! Before the show,
Pastor Art got up to give the testimony about how Bryan came to such a
small venue. You see, the pastor's wife was listening to Bryan's CD in
the car and a thought came to her, "Wouldn't it be great if Bryan could
come play at our church?" Her husband said he wanted to reply, "HA!
Bryan would never come to our small church AND we could never afford
him." Never
say never! The Lord prompted him to agree with his wife, so he did.
Three weeks later, Art got a phone call from Bryan Duncan's manager
asking him if he wanted to host a concert for Bryan in August. HA! Who's playing this practical joke on me?
He wanted to say. But instead, he said, "I'll call you back and let you
know." Then he called the California number right back, they answered
the phone, "Ray Ware Artist Management" then he hung up. It was real!
He told his wife, she was elated. "We have to bring him here!" He
agreed. He called back again and asked how much it would cost. Too
much! How much for just Bryan and not the band? Okay, now we're
talking. If we cram more seats in the sanctuary and sell them at $15
each, we'll break even. They signed a contract and printed up some
tickets. 10 days before the concert, he had 150 tickets left. They
prayed and prayed they would sell.
Art posted signs all over the place. They advertised on the
radio. Then a stranger called and asked how many tickets were
left. Art told him 150. He said I'll take them all. The man wrote a
check for all of them! Then he said, if people call wanting tickets,
tell them it's taken care of! Praise God! Bryan came, Art had lunch
with him and loved the guy immediately. So the house wasn't packed, so
what? Bryan was brilliant. Afterwards we met him and took pics with
him. We talked and he hung around until the last of us were gone. He
even came back the next morning and led worship for Sunday church! What
a guy. Go see Bryan Duncan in concert if you get a chance, it's the
best date night ever!

| What a great story! What a great guy!! I just love Bryan Duncan, hopefully he'll go on tour again soon. We just moved to a bigger city and one of the perks is that Christian artists will play the local venues. I shouldn't complain though, in February, the Christian rock bands Skillet, Seventh Day Slumber, and Kids In The Way made an unplanned stop to play a concert in our small-town community center. That was a blessing for the kids. Those guys didn't just play music, they spoke to the kids & gave their testimonies, too. Thanks for sharing this great story! |
