is homeschooling right for me?

Orange popsicles and school funding

6:14 AM, Feb. 28, 2006 .. 1 comments .. Link

We are so tired this morning. We help the men dig all the dirt for the pool. We used it to fill in the depression in the yard from the new septic field. The pool is in and filling. M had a good first day of testing. The teacher peeked I guess and told him out of 7 pages of questions he only got two wrong. Math of course. N had a so so day. The school passed out popsicles after PE because it was about 80 degrees. N had an orange one. He is not allowed to have artificial colors. We are trying to control his ADD naturally and they know that. I was perturbed at the very least. I have read in more than one place that schools get a $500 per year per child bonus funding for each child on psychatric medicines including ADD meds. and they can force parents to put their  children on these meds. It is a funding bonus and the kids are zombies, unquestioning and blank. This is unfair to any child. Just another reason to say "See why I want to homeschool"

"Different" kids in Public schools don't work!

The schools can not make you drug your child! They are not even allowed to suggest meds. I work as a paraprofessional sub in my kids' school district with special needs kids. (ADHD etc.) My son has ADHD and I know with all my heart that kids who are not robots do not belong in traditional schools! These kids are not treated fairly and the teachers shouldn't have to work so hard--they don't get paid enough! Plus, reg ed teachers have no training usually on how to work with "different" kids. The paras get some training, but you as a parent don't usually get to deal one-on-one with a para! My kids have been in and out of school, and I have finally stopped doubting myself and going with what I know in my heart...especially after working 2 years at the elementary schools in our district. Love to chat more...Also, check out my other site: http://www.laughterandtears.com
Remember, there is no perfect answer! Public schools, private schools and homeschooling all have positive/negative...it's what you make it. I hate to see parents struggle with this...Especially if your child is begging! Follow your heart!
