The "real" meaning of the candy cane
Posted in School
-

We got a magazine in the mail yesterday with an advertisements for christmas stuff, candy canes, ect. Now everyone knows that candy canes are candy "canes" right? Well this is the "real" meaning of candy canes.
Many years ago a candy maker wanted to make a candy that would symbolize the true meaning of christmas-Jesus. The hard candy was shaped like a "J" to represent that Jesus is our rock of all ages. The candy was made of white to stand for the pureness of Jesus. The red represents the blood that Jesus shed to save us from our sins. So the next time you see a candy cane take a minute to remember the real meaning of christmas.
I thought that it was kind of neat. I never knew that a candy "cane" was actually ment to be a "J"! And when people hang them on christmas trees each year they are hanging them upside down! I wonder, did the candy maker actually call them "candy canes" or was it something else like "candy J's"?

My first day of nature studies
Posted in School
-
Well, today was my first day of nature studies! It was a park that had an animal habitat pond. There were bridges so that we could walk across the pond areas. Now I'll start telling you what we found!
The first thing we did was walk across a small bridge over a little pond. On the railing was a mayfly! I had just figured out a few days ago that adult mayflies only live 24 hours. In the pond was a lot of sunfish and bass, a few turtles and even a bullfrog! We saw some spiders too. We also saw ducks, a beetle, a dragonfly with checkered wings, a huge red dragonfly, and a few bugs. We even saw blackberries about the size of a cherry or a large grape! Then we saw a hawks nest on a pole! Later when we went a little farther away, we saw the mother by a pond next to the father. The next thing we know, she's in the nest feeding the babies the fish she had caught! It was fun watching her. She then went back to the pond to catch more fish. We sat down on the grass in the shade and decided that we would try drawing the mother, father and baby hawks so we could always remember them. We also found a tree next to where we were sitting and it had some kind of berry on it. It tasted good but it had tons of seeds in it and we still aren't sure what it is. Well, just when we had sat down to draw the hawks, there comes a big dog off its leash. The park had rules about letting dogs get loose. Well after the dog had gone away we got ready to draw and my brother found a four leaf clover!
That's right I said four, not three. We kept it and we started drawing our pictures. When we were done it was about time to go home. Even though I didn't want to go home yet, I new we'd be coming back next weekend. This was my first day of nature studies. I plan on posting all of our nature study trips if I have the time. So tell me what you thought about today!
Till later!!
