Template by This week we got back in the saddle again. Yes, we did take a rather long Christmas break.
I figure since we school all year round, a long Christmas break isn't a bad thing. When I was in school I always wished they'd give us a long Christmas break (starting the day before Thanksgiving & ending the week following New Year's) instead of such a long summer break. So, I guess I'm living vicariously through my daughter in this area...although our break wasn't quite that long!
I have implemented more breaks throughout the school day. They are just 5-10 minute breaks, but they seem to make a big difference. Gigi stays more focused, and I get to organize my thoughts before moving onto the next subject.
Gigi is really enjoying piano lessons. We work for about 15 minutes each day on it. Out of the hundreds of kids to whom I have taught piano, she's by far my favorite student ever. Okay, maybe I am biased.
Math continues to be her greatest nemesis. She's able to do it, she just really dislikes it. It bores her. I don't believe it is the program we are using (since it is the 5th one we've tried). I think the fact is that she just doesn't like math.
Bible is her favorite subject. We've been studying Elijah this week. She thinks "he's a way cool prophet who should have had a book of the Bible named after him instead of that Habakkuk guy."
All and all, it has been a nice school week. Plus, we got good snow...the kind you can actually use to build a snow girl! That's been a fun task. Gigi keeps re-accessorizing her. Her name is "Matilda" and she doesn't like Ariel (our dog) for reasons that shall remain unspoken.

8:47 PM, Jan. 18, 2008 .. Posted by bethanyraeWhat a story about your dad! Your mom must have a really tender heart. My niece (in her 20's) was not so fortunate. She was leaning down close to see a project she was applying superglue to. It got her right in the eye. Her eye was all puffy and red and sore for the longest time. Kinda scary. Her contact lenses made it less serious, though.
Have I spoken to you about our experiences with Math U See? (They really should cut me a check for all the advertising I do for them! ha)

12:25 AM, Jan. 19, 2008 .. Posted by denisebpGlad that school is going well. I don't blame Gigi for not liking math; I never liked it, either! ;)
My kiddos built a snowman, too. It was the perfect snow for it! Nathan was concerned because he left his favorite hat on it, so he was peering out his window late last night because he was scared that someone would steal it!! Nick actually went out and brought it in for him. What a nice dad! :)
I loved your story on Bethanyrae's blog about the nail glue!! I used to spray my face with an aerosol can of Evian water every morning (those were the days! lol), and one morning I grabbed my hairspray instead of the Evian and sprayed my eyes closed!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Love,
Denise
Hey girl!
3:39 AM, Jan. 19, 2008 .. Posted by deedeeukGlad your first week back went well! Now, about that math nemisis!!!! I'll put this simply. GET MATH U SEE!! I know it sounds like an add, but McGee literally went from tears to triumph with the program. From hiding under the table sobbing at the metion of the 'M' word to running to me with his math book asking if he could do math now!!
I'm jealous about the snow! (see me turning green?)
Thanks for your comments too! I couldn't resist teasing you about the sandwich thing!! ;o) I just couldn't believe I came up as something so totally American through and through! LOL!
Sorry for making you cry with the handover post. I was crying a bit writing it all out! Like you said though, it is like this is a job God has given us to do and by the end of the day he left, I was already wondering who and how soon we would have another to care for? You know me, so you KNOW this is a God thing alone to be able to love these kiddos and hand them over and still have peace to do it all again!! LOL! Totally unlike me!! But I'm loving doing this and seeing these little kids change and learn about God and start learning to love them!!!! At the end of the day, they have to go live with someone while they wait for their new families, and alot of the foster carers out there aren't in it for the kids, and others just don't really care about them! (I have met some!) I have just felt strongly for a long time now that more Christians should be foster carers. What a testimony for Christ to those around us that we can Biblically open our homes and our arms and hearts to today's 'orphans' as Christ commanded us to do? I'm telling anyone they should foster or they are disobeying God, just that more Christians (espcially in this country where everyone seems to think they should only care for their own immediate family) should be doing this! It is a shame when the world does a better job of loving the 'unlovely' then we do!
Well, that probably should have been a whole post on mine instead of a comment on yours! Sorry! Love ya and waiting for that Sightspeed surprise!
It's funny.....
2:33 PM, Jan. 19, 2008 .. Posted by ReviewsbyHeidi....how different kids are. My Gracie LOVES math~ I mean, she is CRAZY about it. Today she brought me her math book and looked at me with this pouty lip, as if to say "please mom?!" Who could say "no"? That child is so far ahead in her math book for the year, that I had to get more to supplement the rest of the year!

Piano
2:51 PM, Jan. 19, 2008 .. Posted by kcmyworldMy ds is doing piano too, but so far, not as thrilled with it as Gigi. On the other hand, he enjoys math (some days more than others!)
Glad to hear the first week back was a good one.
