Kit Kittredge SALVAGED The Day

12:01 AM, Jul. 9, 2008 .. Posted in Momma's Movie Reviews .. 2 comments .. Link

(Bear with me...I'll get to the movie revue.  Honest!)

Monday started out in a very frustrating way.  I had to get blood work done.  My doctor sent me to a hospital that is an hour away because they are the only hospital in our area that will ship blood samples for you.  After driving there with Gigi and waiting to register I was told that they do not ship for the patient any longer.  I'd be responsible to ship it myself.  Oh, and they don't take my insurance unless I'm admitted to the hospital.  The lady said that she sure wished I'd called before making such a long drive.  Of course, I HAD CALLED and been told it wouldn't be a problem as long as I had a referral.  She then told me to go across the street to a blood lab that takes my insurance.  She was positive that they would ship it for me.

She was right about a few things.  I did not need an appointment & they did take my insurance.  What they didn't do was take the time to listen to my questions.  I kept trying to ask the lady if they do the shipping and she kept ignoring me & typing my info into her computer.  She was getting out the needle before she finally would listen to my question.  The answer:  no, they would not ship it for me.  In fact, she said she was wondering why I was having the blood drawn when I didn't bring any type of cooler with me.  Without placing the tube of blood into a cooler with ice packs immediately after it had been given 30 minutes to clot would ruin the sample for the test, but she figured that was my own business & she didn't want to interfere.  I was so frustrated that I just got up, politely said a thanks-but-no-thanks, took Gigi by the hand and left.  Believe me...I've left out many more annoying details!

When we got into the car I just sat there for a few minutes.  I was discouraged because I can't get my MS treatments until I get the results from this blood test.  There is only one lab in the country that does this particular test, so the blood has to be shipped there.  I was going over in my mind how to ship it myself.  I contemplated flying to that state & having them take my blood in person...but that would cost too much.  Then I thought, "How are they even going to know it's my blood if the lab doesn't ship it?"  I mean, people have other people take their drug tests.  Sure, going potty in a cup is easier that being stuck with a needle...

Suddenly I heard Gigi saying, "Hello?  Are you listening to me?"  Then she asked me if we were going home now.  I thought for a minute and told her, "No.  We are going to have a Mommy/Daughter day."  I figured we had driven so far and wasted so much fuel that we might as well get something out of it!

We went to a nearby pet shop where she got to play with some kittens.  We went to a store & found her a very pretty, MODEST swimsuit.  Let me tell you – finding a modest swimsuit for a 7-year-old is harder than you might think!  We've been searching since May!  The theme this year apparently is "Let's attract as many perverts to your daughter as possible."  Yikes!  However, we found a really pretty one-piece suit that had enough material to cover her top, tummy, & bottom.  What a concept!

(For those of you eagerly awaiting the movie revue...here it is!)

After leaving the store we passed a movie theater.  I noticed that Kit Kittredge:  An American Girl was playing.  So I drove around the block, parked, and took Gigi to see it.  Guess what?  I even splurged on popcorn WITH butter.  Woo-Hoo!  Did you know that they don't salt it anymore?  They try to sell you tiny shakers of flavored salts for an outrageous amount of $$$.

I should tell you that we are not into the whole American Girl doll craze.  Gigi does not like dolls other than the Barbie type, so it's never been an issue (thankfully...do you know how expensive they are???).

This movie was WONDERFUL!!!!  I can't say enough good things about it!  The movie is set during the depression and it is so full of heart!  We laughed & we cried & we danced in our seats to some fun older music.  Gigi & I were able to have some great discussions on the way home about caring for others, how others can be so cruel to those in need, not giving up, misjudging people, taking a stand for what is right, etc...    Gigi loved it.  I loved it.  It was so much better that that VeggieTales one we saw a few months ago!  Though it wasn't released as a "Christian" film, it certainly had more Godly values in it than the aforementioned film that was released as a Christian film!

Definitely !

So the day that started off miserably ended on a very happy note.  Isn't God awesome!!!  He took a day that could have just been a total flop and turned it into a wonderful opportunity to teach my Gigi some character lessons.  He even led us to a great swimsuit.  How cool is that?!

Now if only we had a pool...

Stacey

I'm so glad you had a great Mommy/daughter day!

I'm so sorry about the stupid bloodwork people!

Watch your mailbox in the next week or so, I think you may be finding that Christmas does come in July just occasionally.................*BLUSH*

Stuff like that just makes me crazy!!! It's so great to hear about the rest of your day, though. I love special mommy/daughter days. Don't even get me started on swimsuits. I'm grateful that people have given us suits so that we haven't had to shop in the stores for one. I'm sure I'd fall over if I saw some of them! So glad that the movie was good...

About Me

I’d like to share my adventures homeschooling a little girl who is creative, opinionated, & funny! God blessed us with her through adoption. I'm going to use "Gigi" as her name in this blog since that is the name of the character in her favorite book. Also, I'll share some about how I'm adapting to my new life with MS. My husband is a WONDERFUL man & completely supportive of this adventure! I lived an extremely hectic life for years & I loved it!! When God blessed me with Gigi I knew it was time to give up that lifestyle & focus on her. I am SO GLAD that I am spending these precious days with her. I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world!
