Today we started our FIRST day of school for the 2006-2007 school year. This year is a year of FIRSTS in a lot of ways!
-
FIRST of all, we are starting a NEW curriculum! (new to us!)
-
This is the FIRST year of starting in the summer!
-
This is our first year where all four children have to be registered as homeschoolers because Grant is now SIX and in 1st grade!
After our first day I am soooo glad to say that I think this is going to be an EXCELLENT year!! Today we completed our SECOND day and we are enjoying it soooo much! The curriculum we have chosen this year is Winterpromise (www.winterpromise.com) It's a literature based approach along with hands on activities and games. They also recommend websites, and Videos to go along with what you are studying. It's a really nice balace for us, because I love reading and great books. The girls love reading as well, but the boys love more hands on things.
Here are some photos from our first day!

Grant and Ethan working on their Indian Dioramas!

Morgan and Hannah coloring their dioramas!

Grant working VERY hard on his Indian Tribes Map!

Morgan, Hannah and Ethan working on their maps and checking their schedules!

And here's the completed maps!

I think we are off to a GREAT year! We prayed before we started any schooling at all, and each child got to add something to the prayer. We are also using a daily devotional called Sticky Situations where each day we read of a child being faced with different situations where they have to decide how they would handle it. You are given choices on how you think the child should handle it, and then you have to look up a verse or two in the Bible to find the answer. I really like the book and I love the fact that it teaches children to look to the Bible for answers for all of life's problems/situations. After each devotional there are discussion questions and reaffirmation about what the Bible says. It's really a nice addition to our day!

Getting ready to start our reading time!

Ethan finishing his written work
It's such a blessing to see the children doing their work without complaint and ENJOYING themselves! I didn't think I was a hands on person (who enjoys doing hands on projects) but we are really ENJOYING ourselves AND our time together!!
