My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett

My Father's Dragon is a tale of an adventurous boy, the father of the narrarator, who decides to run away from home to rescue a baby dragon.  He uses his cleverness and his knapsack full of unusual tools.  A fun story that captures the reader, and takes you on a jungle adventure.  Great book for 4-8 year olds.  Illustrations on most pages.

I love "My Father's Dragon"! I still haven't found it in my teacher's stash to read to my own children. I know they would love it. Do you know about the other two books that came after it? "Elmer's Dragon" is one and I forget the title of the other. "My Father's Dragon" is the best one of them though.

I have a few friends that told me about the other two, and they said the same thing, that the first one is the best. I am just pre-reading for next year right now, so I haven't read it to Sarah. I think I will wait and see how interested she is before I buy the next ones.

That is one of our favorites, dd 6yo reads it at least monthly, and we have all three books - I bought the other 2 after I realized how much my dds liked the first one.

A Bible Verse

Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us. We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. II Corinthians 4:7-10
