Well, Ali, the snake, is no where to be found, and since she is about the size of an Oreo when she is coiled, I have a feeling we won't see her again. Fortunately this has been harder on me than Sarah. Sarah is sad, but it has really bothered me for some reason. Snakes can live up to 25 years, so I really thought we would have her for a while. She was also the most gentle of the two snakes, so I am disappointed that she is the one that is gone. I hate all the feelings of "I could have done this," that go along with something discouraging like this. I hope that I can deal with this and learn from it. It is hard to just be sad, and not play the "what could I have done about it" game. We will put out food for her later this week, but since she wasn't very good about eating when she was confined, I don't think she will come and eat now.
Before we had a snake, I thought I would be worried when she got out because of the damage she might do, but once you have a snake you realize how they really are more afraid of you. I am really just worried that we won't see her again.

Well Sarah got her Birthday present yesterday, and she was as suprised as she was delighted. She has wanted a pet ever since I can remember, and ever since she held a snake on a field trip, she hasn't stopped talking about one. So, although I wasn't so excited at first--my dh was--after some convincing, I am finally excited.
We got two corn snakes yesterday, and Sarah named them Elizabeth and Ali. It took her a few minutes to realize that they were actually hers to keep, and she was absolutely thrilled when we said that she could keep them. She loves them, and we are just waiting for them to adjust to their new home, and hopefully she can hold one this evening.
So here is my list why snakes are way better than dogs (the pet she has been asking for since she could talk):
They don't make any noise.
They eat about once a week.
They don't dig in the flowers or the garden.
They don't shed hair all over the house.
In relation to the above, they shed their skin which is really cool to watch.
They don't require attention every day, in fact they prefer alone time.
They don't have to get de-wormed, neutered, etc.
They don't shed hair all over the house (I know, I already said that).
I am sure all the dog lovers out there could come up with their own competing lists. Sarah still has her stuffed dog and says that she will get a real dog when she turns 24. But she also loves her snakes, and mom does too, what a bonus.

My oldest daughter, Sarah is 5 today. It is hard to believe it has gone that quick! I have watched Sarah become such a caring little girl. Last night we were having a cookie for a treat, and there was 1 1/2 left. She took the half (without prompting) so her younger sister could have the whole one. She is the one who always wants everyone to get along. She is also so fun to be around. She is always making up songs and stories with her silly sense of humor. The house almost doesn't run when she is gone, because she does so much to help. I can't remember what I did when she couldn't unload the dishwasher, pick up her toys, set and clean up the table, get dressed and fix her hair by herself, fold and put away clothes, and I am sure more that I am not giving her credit for. We are so blessed by Sarah and so glad to get to know her more and more each day!
