5.22.2006 - Still Alive and Well

Posted in General Day to Day

Oh my... I've would've been having some serious blog withdrawal if it weren't for the fact that I've been far too busy to stop and think about it.
We had 5 days of revival meetings at church, which meant Wednesday through  Sunday a lot of driving and late nights... which is a lot for this tired old mother of five (I really need my sleep, and then some...) Normally, I would've spent last week recovering and trying to go to bed at a decent hour every night, but not last week.   My youngest sister got married on Saturday, and due to my certifiable insanity I had agreed to knit her an adorable shrug at the request of my other sister... 'Sure it can be done' I said.  And it was... but rather than pace myself and use the entire month we had left when she got me the yarn... true to my wacky nature, I proceeded to cast on the sleeve, and then put the project down and forget about it, thinking there were still a good three weeks left, until two Wednesdays ago, while shopping with my mom for suits for my boys- that she said those frightening words- '10 days'  I think I went white for a moment, though no one would ever notice as I am about as pale as a human can get without being albino.  10 days!!! Oh my... um... uh... now my sister had already got the yarn from her work- an alpaca and silk blend, it's not cheap, and it's not returnable after it's opened and wound... and so began my knitting marathon.   Many hours every day for 10 days.  My wrists hurt, my shoulders ached, my neck and head throbbed (I have a bad neck and it's hard not to look downward while knitting for prolonged stretches of time,) I stayed up late, tried to get up early (didn't work, so I stayed up late some more,) skipped schooling (let the kids play outside a lot,) fell behind, way behind, in the laundry, the dishes, the vacuuming, and all the cleaning in general.   It was a long 10 days.  My house is in shambles, and I owe my husband and children  some big time wifing and mothering, maybe a square meal or two... but it got done.  Never again will I promise to knit something that big that fast.  (This was a fine yarn, knit up on size 4 needles... that's pretty small for those of you that don't knit... every row of the body took several minutes- 130 stitches- and only made an 1/8 of an inch of progress... )
And after all that, would you believe, that I didn't even get a picture of the stinking thing!?!  How frustrating is that?!?  Top that with the fact that she didn't even put it on!!!  The plan was that she wanted it to wear at the reception as her dress was sleeveless and just had these thin little straps and was rather cool... well, I guess she never got cool... whatever, I'm just glad it's done.  And I will now turn my attention to knitting samples for cold hard cash for Blue Sky Alpacas or knitting for my kids, and maybe someday, knitting for myself... maybe...
In other news, no, that's all the time I can spare- I really need to do another load of laundry, get some ironing done, and start my oldest on his California Achievement Test.  I will blog more later...

Hurray for you! So glad you got your project finished. I love reading your blog....we both have 5 little ones, we both garden......but I haven't a clue how to knit. If you lived near me, I'd draft you to teach me, 'cause it's something that I'd really like to learn! I also love your blog because of your humor. You make you smile!

Blessings,
Cheryl

5.22.2006 - BIG OOOOPS!!

So sorry! The above comment is from ME, not my daughter!!!!!! LOL!!! She blogged and I forgot to sign myself in after she was finished. She's only 10, so obviously, she couldn't have said all of that. Then I tried to fix it to my name and it didn't work. Anyway, just wanted to clear that up for you! LOL!

Hugs,
Cheryl

5.22.2006 - It's great to have you back!

I missed reading your blogs lately. All that knitting sounds crazy. I know what you mean about lots of stitches and no visible progress. I have that with cross-stitch. I can spend an hour and do about a square inch--depending on how often I have to change colors, or count spaces, etc.

Blessings,
Karen

5.23.2006 - Welcome back

Posted by OurHomeSweetHomeschool
Wow... sounds like you've had a busy time! Welcome back to the land of blogging though. We periodically have 5 day revivals at our church also. We just had Dr. Hilton Sutton to our church a few months ago and he taught on end time prophecy and the role of the U.S. It was very good. Last year he was at our church and taught the entire book of Revelation from beginning to end.

Your shrug sounds beautiful (sorry you didn't get a picture of it). As a crocheter I can understand and sympathize with your sore writs and neck.

Well, glad to see you blogging. I've added you to my friends list as we are fellow Minnesotans.

Blessings,
Theresa in MN
