6.29.2006 - So Is It a Boy or a Girl?

Posted in On Being a Mother

Yes, it's definitely a boy or a girl...
I've had several ultrasounds in my life (as this is my 6th child... ) and the last one was the first one we actually opted to be surprised with.  Well, actually, funny story- we had decided not to find out the gender with the previous one, but didn't say anything up front, and having seen several ulrasounds already (I've had more than one with most pregnancies due to minor concerns...) when the tech was done with the measurements, she turned to us and asked "So do you want to know if it's a boy or girl?" and my husband and I looked at each other and back at her and practically said in unison "it's a girl, right?" So the moral of the story is- if you've seen your fair share of ultrasounds and you don't want to know baby's gender, say so up front, before they take the thigh bone measurement...
So, anyway, we figured being surprised once was enough fun for us, and we'd find out this time around... but for the first time we had a little bugger that just wasn't cooperating enough to get a really good look... at first glance there was a shot that had us thinking (even the tech) boy... but then all the other glances didn't seem to have the extra something... so our best 'educated' guess is girl- BUT- there is a distinct possibility that it's a boy, so the long and the short of it is- we don't know! We really don't know!  This is the first ultrasound that it hasn't been pretty near crystal clear!  Oh well, we'll take either, right?!
Here are a couple of pics... enjoy...

Long feet, that comes down my side of the family...

Don't you just love those alien face shots?  And check out the fingers wrapping around the leg... the tech thought that was a cool pic...

Nothing prominent in that gender shot... too bad she didn't capture that first glance one that looked a little boyish... then you'd know why it was so hard to really tell...

Check out the hand wrapping around the leg again, nothing boyish showing up in that shot either... and this was the best profile shot she could get as this little one was all balled up in the tuck position (a future diver?) and never really stretched out at all...

All in all, a fun way to spend an afternoon... we brought the girls with as I thought it would be neat for them to see the baby on the screen- they enjoyed that... but they probably enjoyed the orange-cream smoothies we stopped and got afterwards even more!  They were so well-behaved we got comments from the staff walking by and the coffee shop girl... usually kids are tearing all over that place driving everyone nuts... it was nice to get a comment like that again as my kids have gotten a bit squirrel-y (in my opinion) as of late... and we used to get comments all the time when we went somewhere... and, well, it was nice to get one again... they really were being good little cuties!  If only they were like that all the time, but that's a whole 'nother entry!  I'll write that one when I get it all figured out... (don't hold your breath!)

6.29.2006 - Those are great!!!

I especially like the very last one. You can just see the baby so perfectly. I have one photo of my oldest son, at about 8mo on the ultrasound. He was having some trouble so they were checking him out real well. The photo of his face (that's about all it was) was so uncanny. It looks just like him! LOL.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting today. I appreciate it and am so glad when something I write means something to someone else!
Oh, but I made a mistake. My daughter told me it's 10 days on the farm eggs. :)

My kids are so smart!
Blessings,
Nancy

How Fun! I remember going to my first ultrasound it was so exciting. We wanted to know if it was a boy or girl and they had no trouble telling us it was a boy. I think it is kind of great that you do not know. Surprises are fun! I love looking at ultrasound pictures. Wonderful to see God creation at work. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I look forward to finding out in a few months if you have a boy or girl.

Have a great weekend!

You really ARE pregnant! Is it sinking in yet?
Six is a good number. You'll be numerically balanced now! he he he :)
Is it time yet? I can't wait! I can't wait!

Oh I love ultrasound pictures. Thank you for sharing them. How fun to be surprised. :o) I have always been an impatient one (just ask my mom...) I would have probably kept pestering and pestering to have them look again so that I could find out.

Ultrasound pictures just take me aback...isn't it all just truly amazing?! That must have been so exciting for your children to see...I'd say this baby wants it to be a surprise, too!
