11.15.2006 - Mercy- One Week Old

Posted in On Being a Mother

Wow, a week old.  It seems to have flown by, and yet it seems like I can't remember a time without her.  This baby is so sweet, she is such a joy to have.  She is so peaceful, for now, and I'm loving it.  I know it won't be long, it will seem like it's here tomorrow, when the time will come for her to be crawling, then walking, then running and tumbling with the rest of them.  Shouting, even whining with the best of them, or would that be the worst of them?  But for now, I'm cherishing the sweet, sweet sleepy newborn that she is.

I could just hold her all day... except that I can't... I have a bad neck, and for the first couple of weeks after every baby I go through quite a painful adjustment period with all of the looking down and the holding/lifting things with my arms all the time nursing and just cooing.  It hit me yesterday pretty hard and I spent the day nursing my neck and shoulders with Tiger Balm and heat packs & ice packs... and shushing the rest of the children to keep my headache at bay (headaches from neck pain are excruciating...)  So I'm having to be careful about body mechanics and being sure to have pillows supporting her while I nurse (I need to fix my torn Boppy Pillow) as I don't really want to be taking too much motrin, or any pain killers, while nursing.  It will pass, my body will adjust, and my chiropractor visits will be a bit more regular for a while.  She is worth every ache and pain.

Well, with me not feeling too good, and with no school happening this week, the rest of the troops fell out of order yesterday.  Wandering aimless through the day with this many little ones is a recipe for a whining disastor.  We will be having a few structured activities the rest of the week, even if it's just assigned Mr. Potato Head time, maybe a coloring contest...  I suppose it's time to start making some turkey decorations or something, maybe a Thankful Tree- we have so much to be thankful for!

Happy One Week (yesterday), my sweet!

    enjoying them,
    because of Him,
    ali

Congratulations, Ali! She is beautiful!! And it looks like you have the same infant seat we have. :) Baby L has almost outgrown hers, though.

I just love that shiny down-like hair. It reminds me of my oldest boy and oldest girl, they both had hair exactly like that.

She is absolutely beautiful. How can one look at a newborn baby and doubt there is a God who loves them? Nothing more precious in all the world. Enjoy!!

Congratulations on your gorgeous little girl. I have been following your blog for a few weeks now, and am so happy for you that all has gone well. The only thing I wonder...are you sure that you are not overdoing it? She's only 1 week old, and you are busier than I would be on a regular week without just having given birth!! I don't know how you do it, but just want to caution you from experience that you may want to pace yourself-for the good of you and your whole family!!! Enjoy this time... it is so short!!
God Bless, Svb

She is soooo pretty!

How'd the Mr. Potato Head time go? How about the coloring contest?

You looked so great pregnant!! How do girls do that? I turn into the Goodyear Blimp when I am pregnant -- and then I stay that way for months!!

Hope you get back to yourself soon! Blessings, Beckie :o)

She is so sweet! I bet she gets a lot of love from her older siblings (and parents, of course!). Ooh, I just love babies! :-)

We're also starting our blessing tree. A little late, but that's okay. We have so much to be thankful for, so it's nice to put it into a visual picture the kids can look at and ponder.

Take care,
~Karen

Aww! she's just precious!

And so smooth and yummy looking. I love newborn babies. Just can't smell them or kiss them enough.

I realized I had your baby girl mixed up with another mommy that just gave birth too...she had a Grace and you have a Mercy...so sorry. I mixed both of the names up on my comments last week. SORRY!!!!

:BLUSHING PROFUSLY

Can I use the excuse that my little guy has croup and lack of sleep does a body bad??

Blessings on your week end...
