11.25.2006 - Mercy- Two Weeks Old

Posted in On Being a Mother

Another week flew by- what's new, right?  Seems like every week flies by.  It's a sobering thought, really, if you let yourslef stop and think about it for very long... time really flies by, our children's lives really fly by- every day is precious and every day is a gift.  Now if I could just really live as though I really believed that every day.  I am trying to learn to cherish every day with my sweet babies and my dear husband.  It's something that's easy to think about these first couple of weeks with a newborn- they grow so fast, every day seems to bring a new look to their tiny little faces.  As they get older and start moving around faster and faster, it's far too easy to slip back onto life's treadmill and run through each day as though we'll never run out of days to run through.
With each new baby I go through these stages of deeper realizations of some of the deeper things in life.  Things like getting the most out of every day.  Things like stopping to smell the flowers- today, for tomorrow the blossoms may be gone.  Things like reading one more story- today, for tomorrow that sweet little one may not want to sit on my lap and be read to.  Things like smiling into the face of each child, each day, lest their memories of childhood be filled with more stern orders to 'pick up that mess!' than adoring 'do you know how much I love you?'s.
Enough philosophising for today.  But really, time is flying by.  Mercy turned 2 weeks old (and is already approaching the 3 week mark...) and I can still hardly believe that the pregnancy is over!
She got a good review at her little check-up.  She's up to 9 lbs. 6 oz. and 21 1/2", so she's gained almost a pound and grown 2 inches already!  What a little miracle!

A flash in the face of an already pale woman isn't the most flattering... but I just love the squished up little face of a newborn cuddling and falling asleep on a shoulder!

This one looks like we've already started training for the Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship!  (Did this make the news in your neck of the woods?  Or do I just listen to too much talk radio?)

    Enjoying them
    because of Him,
    ali

I'm not too far behind in enjoying this slower part of life. It is true that being a part of this work of bringing life into the world makes you stop and enjoy it more. I loved reading your thoughts.
