• Sep. 21, 2009 - Meeting the Boys

Now it's time to introduce our three sons. We have Ethan 7, Caleb 3 and Timothy 7 months.
Ethan
Ethan is our goof ball son. LOL He likes to be in the trees more than on the ground.
He likes to climb the walls too. Don't worry, it's o.k.....I am the one who taught him how to climb the walls. LOL Ethan likes to sit on his head. He's very limber. He is sweet. Tells me I am nice and warm and that he likes to snuggle me. He likes to play with Legos and his Geo tracks. He also likes to draw. Space aliens and dinosaurs are some of his favorite things to draw. He also likes to play with hammers, nails and wood and try to build things. He is not very motivated, gives up easily. SO, I have to keep him going with his school work. He gets easily distracted and on to something else. But when he puts his mind to it, he does really well in school. He reads pretty well now. And he seems to be good in math. He is in second grade. He would probably say his favorite subject is recess and that his least favorite is phonics. LOL

Caleb
Caleb is ALL BOY. He likes to help with EVERYTHING!!  He LOVES to push the push mower around the yard. (With it OFF of course!)
He has a little cart that he pushes around the yard when his daddy is mowing, and he pretends he is mowing too. He gets mad if you don't let him help with something. He likes to play with hammers, nails and wood too. He loves his baby brother and likes to hold him. He is a sweetie too and likes to snuggle Mommy. Caleb is recently 100 percent potty trained. (yes we are a little behind....no pun intended. LOL) We went to Cracker Barrel to eat a few weeks ago, and he had his first experience using a public restroom. He was VERY excited to discover that Cracker Barrel had toilets. He says, "WHAT! They have toilets in here! How did they get that in here?" LOL He has not stopped talking about it since. LOL Caleb is not officially in school yet. But we work on ABC's, 123's, colors, etc. He sits at the table with us for part of school and pretends his doing school work. Then he will say, "I am done with my school work." and run off to play. He is one strong little guy! We are constantly amazed by the things he does that we wouldn't think he would be able to do. Mr. Tuff stuff.

And finally we have our littlest man, Timothy. He evened out our mix to make it 3/3. (3 boys and 3 girls)....
Timothy is our "home baby". We had a home birth with him. All the others we had in the hospital. But after 5 natural births with no problems, I decided I didn't want to go to the hospital any more unless it was necessary. He was my fastest and easiest and least painful birth. And he weighed in at 10 pounds 13 ounces! The others were all in the 8 pound range. It was a wonderful experience. And if God blesses us with another child, I plan to have that one at home too, Lord willing.
Timmy is a sweetie. He is sitting up and playing with toys now. Scooting all around in the floor. He will be getting his first toofie woofie any day now. He has the sweetest smile with cute dimples that he gets from my Mom. He likes to give me kisses, tho his love is a bit rough.....he grabs me by the ears and pulls me in for a slobbery munch on the chin. LOL His chatter is very sweet. We all love him!

So, now you have met us all.
Have a blessed day! And, I hope that you can rejoice in knowing that wherever you go.....
There is a potty!!!!!!

• Sep. 18, 2009 - Meeting the girls

  Introducing.....Alysha 12, Amber 9,  and Rebecca 5.
Alysha is our eldest.

She is in 7th grade. She has practically taught herself. She works very well independently. She is very creative and very talented. Also very well rounded. I'd like to be like her when I grow up! Oh, she has faults.....those are the only things she gets from me. LOL She draws amazingly! I draw stick people, so I think she is a great artist. She gets that from her Dad's mother. Alysha enjoys crocheting, beading, card making, sewing (learning) baking and pen paling. She also is into archery and goes bow hunting with her Dad. Here are a couple of her beading projects:

Then there is Amber.
Amber is nine and in 4th grade. Amber has an amazing memory. She can remember songs and movie lines after hearing them once. She can quote word for word most of the movies and story CD's we have. She remembers things that happen in great detail. She does well in school too. But she gets easily distracted. She is a story teller....constantly has a story going in her mind. This often causes daydreaming during school. You have to get her to focus! Often you don't think she is listen because she will not look you in the eye, but then she can quote you back word for word. Now, sometimes she NOT listening. LOL She  has grown into working well independently. Her and Alysha both are very good, expressive, readers.  Amber likes to crochet, bead, make greeting cards, pen paling, and using just about anything around the house to make something new. She likes putting together flower bouquets and decorating the table. She likes baking and cooking. The house often rings with her laughter.

And finally, our youngest daughter, Rebecca.Rebecca is 5 and in first grade. She can be really sweet! And also really scarry!!!
LOL Rebecca likes to play in the dirt, climb trees, play with the chickens and get as dirty as possible! LOL She likes to make cards and do beading too. And she enjoys pen paling. She likes to vacuum. She is a challenging one! She does very well in school, tho I suspect a MILD case of dyslexia. I wondered last year when she wrote the alphabet not only in reverse order (from Z to A), but also every letter was backward. I don't know? Maybe she was just displaying some weird talent?? LOL She didn't even realize she had done it til I pointed it out. She does that with her name sometimes. But most of the time she does fine, just gets b and d reversed, etc, which is common. She is learning to read and doing pretty well.

Well, there are the girls. Next week you can "meet" the three boys.

• Sep. 18, 2009 - Sept. 19, 2009

(waxwing in our orchard last Spring)

I've finally made it to the BOTTOM! Yes, I know, most people get excited about making it to the TOP. But not me....I am not like most people.....I am a weirdo!! So, I am totally thrilled to have finally made it to the bottom of....THE LAUNDRY PILE!!! LOL Yes, I saw the bottom of the laundry baskets. I was beginning to think they were bottomless pits! Where does all  this laundry come from?? I really see the value in the "Little House on the Prairie Days" and everyone only having a few outfits to rotate! LOL At least for half a day I can breathe a sigh of relief! I don't like heights!
It's FRIDAY! This is our craft day in school. On Fridays we do the subjects that take us the longest to get completed in a year....usually math and phonics, English. Then we do a craft. Sometimes I plan a craft in advance. Sometimes NOT! LOL Sometimes they children like to plan a craft. They are very creative little people.
My husbands mother and her hubby are coming in from Maryland in the morning. They are going to meet us out at Potter's Ranch, where we are going to be spending the day. Potter's Ranch is a Christian camp. We have gone out there for the last two years for their annual birthday celebration. Link to Potter's Ranch
Our two oldest have saved up to be able to take a horse trail ride. Our children love horses! You have to be 9 to take the trail ride. Alysha (12) has gone for the last two years. Amber (9) is FINALLY old enough, and has been saving money and looking forward to this ALL YEAR! The others can do the little pony rides.
We will be busy having fun and hanging out with Brad's Mom til Tuesday morning when they head back to MD. Yes, no school Monday! It's cool to be able to take days when you want to. We home school all year round and take breaks when we want....when company comes, or on our birthdays, etc. :)
In my spare moments, as rare as they are, I am going to be working on a crochet project. My Mom works out at the Answers Creation Museum. Answer in Genesis link Last year they asked for volunteers to make yarmulkes for their Bethlehem Blessings live nativity. I volunteered and made some. This week they asked if I could make some more. They liked the ones I made last year. How cool is that! So, I am to make about 2 dozen yarmulkes between now and December. They are really easy to make. Take about half an hour or so each. It's neat that i can have a little part in the ministry out there. What is a yarmulke?
Have a great weekend in the Lord everyone!

• Sep. 16, 2009 - Getting to Know Us

Well, I thought I would put in some entries about us so you can get to know us a little. I will introduce a member of the family each week day until I get around to all 8 of us.
I guess I will start with me, since I am the one doing this bloggy thing.
I am 35 years old...I THINK....Something has happened to my brain after 6 children and I often forget what I am about! LOL
I enjoy homeschooling. Would not have it any other way! I learn right along with the children. Some days are challenging! But it's all worth it! I think I have learned more in the last 7 years of home schooling than I ever learned in my own career in school.
I attended public and Christian schools growing up until I reached 8th grade. At that point, my parents started home schooling me and my three younger brothers. I finished my schooling through homes school. So, I am a home school graduate myself, and plan on schooling our children all the way through.
I repented of my sin and trusted Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was 5.
I enjoy studying God's Word and His Creation. My hobbies are pen paling, crochet, making greeting cards, eating chocolate (This one of course is one of the TOP priorities!!), gardening, and learning and growing in the Lord.
I don't really like to talk about myself....so, I will go now and tomorrow you can "meet" another member of our family.

• Sep. 16, 2009 - Gardening

Posted in Gardening
It's pumpkins!!
We have been gardening for about 4 years now. We are still beginners, learning new things all the time. The way we learn the most is by trial and error  LOL
Each of the older four children were given a little patch in the garden all their own the past two years. That has been fun for them. Last year our 9 year old, Amber, grew pumpkins. This year we decided not to grow pumpkins. Well, one day we noticed a vine growing out of our COMPOST PILE......YEP pumpkins. We may not have wanted them this year, but it appears they wanted us!!
So, now we are at the point where the pumpkins are ready for processing. Yesterday our 12 year old, Alysha, cut up one of the pumpkins and boiled the pieces so the rind would come off easily. Then she peeled off the rind and  blended up the pumpkin. Today, she is making pumpkin pie! YUM! Last year we made several pumpkin pies and froze them. Lord willing, we will do the same this year.
Any good pumpkin recipes out there??

• Sep. 16, 2009 - Doing The Blog Thing

O.k., SO I am going to try this blog thing. Never done anything like this before. And don't even know if anyone will be interesting in my ramblings. But I would like to make new friends in the community of the Lord out there, and possibly get in touch with other Christian Home schoolers in our area that we can fellowship with. Not really even sure how this work....but here goes nothing................
