Oct. 16, 2009 - Our first month in review
You know, I don't think I'm going to be very good at keeping up with this second blog. I want to but I keep forgetting it's here.
We are finishing our sixth week of school but really our fourth week of curriculum. We have SO been enjoying the cool, crisp autumn air here in northern NH. The children and I have been busy enjoying the vibrantly colored foliage....

Sep. 5, 2009 - A glimpse into week one
Even though we've just finished week two, I thought I'd give you a little peak into week one. In Exploring Countries and Cultures, we learned about habitats and ecosystems. So, one of the projects for the week was to rope of a one square yard area and explore it. The girls had to look for living things and different types of plant life and also answer many questions about their observations. The girls had an absolutely fabulous time and it really got them interested in "school". Oh happy day! lol Here's a picture:

Aug. 30, 2009 - In the beginning...
Well, the beginning of this school year, that is! I cannot believe we are starting our seventh year of homeschooling. Our eldest 1g11 is in sixth grade and our twin girls 2&3g7 are entering second. There have been a whole lot of times when I felt I didn't have a clue what I was doing and lots of frustrations along the way but right now ~ for this moment~ I feel like we've come to a place of confidence in what we're doing. We've settled nicely into our eclectic mix of curriculum, found a nice balance between unschooling and structure and have learned to really enjoy each other!
So, the purpose of this secondary blog is to outline our 2009-2010 school year. I have found that my main blog deals with so many other topics that when I post something about homeschooling, it almost feels out of place! I guess this one is more for me - for a record of what we're doing.
August 24, 2009 Our 'official' first day of school
Our curriculum Can I just insert a HAHAHAHA here? When I say "eclectic", I really mean it :)
For all three girls, I am using My Father's World: Exploring Countries and Cultures. This curriculum encompasses science, history/geography, Bible and art. This is our first year using it and I have to admit, I *adore* it! My only 'complaint' is that I find it's very weak in Bible. I have a feeling I'm going to have to supplement in that area.
1G11: Math: ACE
English: Intermediate Language Lessons & A Workbook for Dyslexics
Handwriting: Handwriting Without Tears
2&3G7: Math: Abeka
English/Spelling: Abeka & Primary Language Lessons
Handwriting: Handwriting Without Tears
What's neat about MFW is that they incorporate nature studies and a history/science notebook into the curriculum. There are a lot of neat extra's that you can do that are offered but not necessary to the curriculum. It's a lot of fun! And it makes the more mundane tasks of english and math more bearable!
Last week, the girls learned about habitats and did a nature study that they thoroughly enjoyed. As soon as I get rid of dial-up (on Tuesday - yay!) I'll post a picture.
It's an exciting time for sure.
