Aug. 26, 2008 - What We've Been Doing Instead of School - Part 2
We had to rake all the parts that the equipment was unable to level.

Levi kept peeling hay off the round bale and filling a wheelbarrow. He'd then dump them in strategic locations for Audie and me to fluff. It was a very hot day and the hay was dusty. There was much more surface area than we had anticipated. It took hours. My sister and her husband showed up for an impromptu visit, and rolled up their sleeves and helped us. If it weren't for them, we'd have been doing it until dark.
We ended up using THREE big round bales. Levi was once again a VERY big help. And he learned some very important life skills.
Here's what it looked like when we were done...

This last picture is where a big truck full of stone for the bottom of the pond got stuck when the pond guy was digging the pond. It dug the lawn up, so we had to add topsoil and grass seed along here too.Now we just wait for the grass to grow...

We have had several of those types of projects. Lots of life learning skills - my favorite kind.
The boys had a ton of fun with Levi today! We have to do it again soon!

MUCH more fun than school! I had a young college guy ask abou testing and why we don't (he was a door-to-door school book seller)
I told him 'becuase tests aren't fun'. He gave me a weird look.

Whoa! Does that look famaliar. We did the same thing this summer..two solid acres of it. My son loved it, daughters...not so much, LOL! Thanks for the comment on the assignment. It is such a relief to know someone else has gone through the same thing. This year is a struggle as well. We are doing the charter but we are two weeks into it and we still do not have any books! Frustrating. I have been reading up on Charlotte Mason, a little afraid of it in PA (tons of homeschool laws) I hope you have a great day!
