All In A Day's Work

Sep. 10, 2008 - Homeschool Memoirs Assignment #4: Something New

This week's Homeschool Memoirs Assignment is to share something new I'm using this year.

We try something new every year. My favorite new thing we are using this year is Exploring Creation with Zoology 3: Land Animals of the Sixth Day. It is from Apologia and the author is Jeannie K. Fulbright. I got it from Christianbook.com.

I'm not a big fan of textbooks, mostly because they are dry and only touch on several subjects. This is not dry at all. It is written in a very conversational tone, and digs deeply into one part of zoology. There are several others in the series. My good friend Keeter's son is doing
Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day and from what I hear he is enjoying it as well.

Levi and I love reading our zoology book together, and we've both learned a lot. I also purchased this ebook with lapbook instructions specifically for our Land Animals of the Sixth Day book. We are working on the activities for lesson one, and I'm tweaking them to make them work for us.

Seems like the Exploring Creation series is all the rage this year! My daughter is in a co-op class that is using Exploring....through Botany. Her teacher is awesome and is using lapbooks, as well.

Yep we have the Botany text and I love it. This is one the girls would ask me to do another lesson in. We did it together outdoors while the littles were taking their naps. It was really fun and interesting.

I've heard so many great things about this curriculum. I am thinking of using it in a year or 2 when I can use it with both of my oldest children.

Sep. 13, 2008 - I'm so impressed!

Hey, Stacie--It's Janine. I think I have an account here but I'm too tired to find out. I just had to tell you how 'proud' I am of you and so very impressed! I pray your homeschooling experience stays blessed and that you and Levi spiritually prosper from it. Time with the kids goes by soooo fast and enjoy this time with him. Maybe we'll run into each other one day--my son Elliot is 9, too. Haven't seen you guys in years!

Blessings, Janine

I was unsure about buying one of those in the series for next year. We like to delve into one topic for the whole year (this year is geology) from grade 4 up. I think I'll feel more confident investing in it next year now.
