Dec. 3, 2007 - Personalized Decorations
Granny brought these wooden ornaments for the boys today. They just love to decorate wooden ornaments and immediately got busy with their markers. The neat thing about these particular ornaments was that the boys could add their names to the little placards hanging on the bottom. Note: Nate has recently been fine-tuning his cursive handwriting, trying to find his own 'signature'...

Nov. 27, 2007 - More K'nex Creations
Nov. 23, 2007 - Functional Art
K'nex are fun... and usually, the boys create neat toys with them such as these cool tractors...

But, this evening, our in-house inventor, Nate, decided to make something a bit more utilitarian. As a result, our kitchen table is now outfitted with this lovely napkin holder. He made a paper towel holder as well. Soon, our entire kitchen will be outfitted with K'nex!

By the way, the decorative plate under the candle was hand-crafted by Kent earlier this year. It's so wonderful to have functional art throughout the house! |

Quinn put alot of thought into this craft project. The plate reminds us that 'God never has too much on his plate'. The fork reveals that we all need his help. Quinn has requested God's help with food, work and the farm.

From a very young age, Pablo Picasso was a great artist who enjoyed using simple shapes. He later invented a 'new' way to create art - by combining many different pieces together to make a picture... a collage!
Inspired by Picasso and his collages, the boys created these simplistic, multi-media collages - starting out by tracing their own hand:

Mar. 22, 2007 - Cezanne Doodles
The impressionist, Paul Cezanne, used 'impossible' perspective in his still life paintings. He experimented with boldly colored geometric shapes, and dark shadows to enhance those colors. The boys created these still life masterpieces with cut paper:

Jan. 2, 2007 - Matisse Doodles
Henri Matisse was an artist who used 'free form' shapes to show how he was feeling. His paintings combine 'positive space', the shape itself, and 'negative space' the space around the shape.
These masterpieces made by Quinn and Kent are inspired by Matisse and his free form shapes.
