Dear Kathryn,
Today was deliciously warm. Just right for being outside. And since I rarely have anything to keep me from doing what I like, I was out-of-doors all day long. I rode my bike down the street, and was having Quite a jolly time,Sally,My Yorkshire pup, trailed along after me up and down the streets. (I think she was enjoying the day too.) I was just going up the street again, when a small lad called over to me. When I looked over I saw he was not much older than ten,and he was standing on the street corner. He looked rather timid. When I asked what he wanted politely, he answered: "I'm awful bored." well, he certainly looked as if he were bored.
"May I play with you?" he asked. "If you like, you may. " I answered him. And he did just that. I kept on riding my bike with Sally trailing behind,And Allan, (Whom he later on introduced himself as.) Did a mighty fine job of keeping up with us, and I told him so myself. After awhile we got tired, so I brought him over to my house. We sat down in the shade of my favorite elm tree out back and talked for awhile. Allen told me he hadn't any father or mother,I suppose that makes him an orphan, poor fellow. And he said that there's no one to play with or talk to over at the orphanage he stays in. I really pitied him. After he explained his sorrowful tale,I decided right then and there that I'd be Allan's friend. I'll play with him and talk to him,for I know he needs a LEAST someone! Don't you think, Kathryn? Of course he does! I Took a photograph of Him today with the Fancy Camera Daddy gave me for my birthday. So, Mama gave me some more paste so I could add it inside as well. Here he is:

So that ends my adventure for today. Now I must go to bed.
Your friend always,
Annette |
