Sep. 11, 2008 - So, let's just talk about the weather!
I guess there's good reason that it used to be considered poor manners to discuss religion or politics. The fact is, both are complicated subjects that can cause much confusion and heated debate. My mom came over the other day to visit and asked my opinion of VP candidate Sarah Palin. I found myself hemming and hawing to answer. The truth is, I'm not sure how I feel about her. She seems nice, smart, funny, and she is anashamedly pro-life which is the most important issue to me. So, all in all she seems like a good pick. BUT.... I find myself wondering how on earth a mother of a tiny Down's Syndrome baby and a pregnant teenager can focus ~ or should focus ~ on being Vice President of the United States. I mean, I don't have a baby or a pregnant daughter and and I feel overwhelmed much of the time! I cannot imagine the stress of dealing with the family issues she is dealing with *and* trying to have a big fat all consuming carreer such as second in command of a whole country. wow. So, there's my dilemma. I want to like her, but I find myself feeling sorry for her family, and wondering how we can call her a "pro-family" candidate when her own family is clearly taking a back seat to her political aspirations.
So...... UH...... how's the weather where you are?

I asked myself the same questions when friends of mine started entering the political scene here. Who had time for that with a family? Shouldn't they concentrate their efforts at home before spreading themselves so thin? I saw that public life in a fish bowl is excruciating for everyone in a the family. Then I started seeing the difference my friend's presence made to the community. Danny was a renegade who forced Mayor A. to examine his life and city business just by being the first city councilman to show up at a meeting with a laptop and lotsa questions about the ways things were done in the Kville Police Department. Though he's gone now, Danny's work effects and still holds the city to a higher standard.
I think to myself that some people are called to this kind of life, and I can only hope Sarah Palin is called as well. If so, God will provide for her family. Should nursing mothers of special needs children not be called to make change, because they have home responsibilities? It's a good and fair question. I think of how David completely blew it as a husband and father yet he is known to have a heart after God.
I have also come to the conclusion that I'm not beyond my children making life altering mistakes like having children out of wedlock- even if I've dedicated my own life to them and haven't worked in 14 years. God can turn mistakes around and make them beautiful too.
Another friend of mine has a high powered job, but I see her parent her five children flawlessly. She runs a tight momma ship full of love and order without much help at all from anyone but her older children. You should see the schedules and charts she keeps! Even her littlest is expected to pitch in and step up to a high standard.
All this said, I have no inclination of how Sarah Palin does it, but I am excited she does. She's set the Republicans on fire against a gifted and charasmatic adversary. She seems made for such a time as this.
Weather here? Muggy~!

I just posted another comment and said the same thing on another friend's blog. I feel her house is obviously under attack and I do question her priorities to run for VP when she has a pregnant teen and a down syndrome baby.
I can only pray for her and pray that she sees and follows where God is leading her because the truth of the matter is, I don't know what God's plan is for her life.
