The Lord's Prayer
I am occasional lurker at a fellow Orthodox convert's site called This Side of Glory. A while ago she recommended the 12 tape series by Fr. Thomas Hopko on the Lord's Prayer. Her words were: "(I think that everyone already knows this, but if you ever have a chance to borrow a Fr. Hopko lecture series — or, y’know, buy it
— do it. It doesn’t even matter what the subject is. Orthodox Haiku.
Rock Gardening. Phlebotomy. Doesn’t matter. I’ve never heard a single
talk by him that wasn’t fascinating.)" I
have a couple of other taped lectures by Fr. Thomas and had the
pleasure of hearing him in person, "This Side of Glory" is spot
on. The first time I heard one of his tapes I thought, "Here is
someone who is almost as animated as my BIL when he gets excited about church doctrine, Christian spirituality, or Theology". So, I just had to go out and buy this series too. I'm now on my 2nd run through The Lord's Prayer
and it is absolutely fabulous. It has changed the way I look at
this prayer and given me a reverence for those words I say each
day. I can no longer just "run through" it, but I try to take it
slowly and ponder what I am saying.
