Getting Ready
I've been procrastinating long enough and
its time for me to hunker down and make a choice. I think this
year I have had the most difficult time deciding what curriculum to
use. There's been much back and forth, almost exclusively with
History. Somehow, it has tripped me up this year. Last year
it was easy. We were becoming Orthodox and I wanted to learn more about
the Early Saints and the Church - so we all did it together.
Peter told me at the end of last year he was disappointed we never got
to the Middle Ages. I told him we could do it this year.
However, this can be a difficult period to find an appropriate
curriclum for. Many are completely unusable for an Orthodox
Christian and never even seriously considered. Besides, most of
those choices don't appeal to me anyways (textbooks for History?
ugh). All others need some sort of "tweaking". So, which
one will fit my style of teaching, keep the kids interest, actually
TEACH them something, and not cause me to go crazy trying to make
adjustments? I think this is partly why I've been
procrastinating. I don't want to do the work involved.
Tomorrow I plan on buying the IG for one program, from the information
I've gleaned, it looks like it will work the best for our family and my
needs. I hope to look it over and see how tweakable it really is.
I have a Catechesis I want to do with Timothy and Catherine here. Its the ones titled So Great A God and Blessed is the Kingdom. I already own Blessed...
and it looks really, really good. We just didn't get around to
implementing it last year. This year, its a priority.
