Plowing through

Lately, I have been struggling to enjoy the Daily Readings from the Church Fathers.  Most of this week (I have opted to read on Sunday's rather than follow the Western calendar) is spent on Justin Martyr.  He is an interesting fellow, but his writing is tedious thus far.   I am looking forward to the Life of St. Anthony by Athanasius and Cyril of Jerusalem's Catechetical lectures but I have to get through Justin and Cyprian (don't know what he will be like either) first.

In order to make my reading more pleasurable I've been listening to this:

My husband has the entire set of the church fathers; although, I don't think he's gotten all the way through more than a few of them. I have a very hard time getting into the writings, but I am sure there is a lot to learn there.

Ditto ~ I am really struggling with Justin Martyr's writings this week. I kind of feel like I do whenever I read anything from John Piper. Piper is my pastors favorite author. We get his books in appreciation of almost everything we do. Everytime I read one, I finish and think... "He made his point eons ago. Why is he still writing?"

I've not read Justin Martyr's writings, but I pray that they bless you, difficult though they may be.

The CD looks lovely.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure about the chemistry as of right now he is very much into math but that could change we'll see. Thanks for the suggestion for math. I wasn't too happy with Saxon but wasn't to impressed with the other maths I had seen either. The one you suggested looks interesting and I'm going to check it out further. I really appreciated your help.

Do you teach your children all of this church history? You may be the home school mom but you sure are a learner yourself! You're always sharing about your latest read. Terrific! Your kids can't grow unless you do. I'm impressed.
