Great and Holy Wednesday

I was able to make it to service of Holy Unction this morning.  We had long readings: 7 Prokeimenons, 7 Epistles, 7 Gospel and 7 prayers.  Beautiful passages and prayers about healing and restoration.  One of my favorite stories read was of the Canaanite woman whose daughter is healed from demon possession.  The readings remind us that in Christ healing is spiritual as well as physical.

Coming home the smell of myrrh on the 4 of us was intoxicating in the small car.

Deb,

I am so glad you are well enough to participate in Passion Week services.

I wonder how many people from my congregation would go to sevices if they were as frequent as they are in the Orthodox church? We only have one service per week. Less than 20% of our congregation participates in a Bible study or home church group. Our services are only a little over an hour long and I know someone who changed churches because the Sunday service ate up too much of their family's day.

First thoughts... let me follow your links so I can learn what you did at services.

Yeah! Glad you're feeling better. Bummer to be sick this week of all weeks. Hope you feel up to making the services for the rest of the week. Much love, B.

Julie - Sadly, the East is not immune from similar problems. However, I was surprised by the amount of people that came this morning. It helps that this year East and West celebrate Pascha on the same day..so area schools are out this week.

Hi Deb,

Thanks for coming by the blog today and leaving me a comment! It's really great to meet you. Israel has become one of my obsessions now...I love to read, study and see all I can on it! That is a cool thing about being intoxicated by the myrrh. I smelled it once, but can't recall it's fragrance.

You have such an interesting blog! I don't think I know any Orthodox believers, so I'll be back to learn. The myrrh sounds heavenly.

I tried to find out what happened to Lazarus below, but I couldn't link through. Next time? (The Jewish leadership were after him, poor man.)

Thanks for visiting via Christie at Crickl's Nest.

Have a blessed Holy Week. Hugs!

Welcome Christie and e-mom! So nice to have visitors.

I checked on the link with Lazarus and you're right, that entry has been removed.

I was able to find it through Bloglines history here is the link to the article:

Thanks for the heads up.
