Striving Day by Day

Apr. 5, 2006 - The Lord's Continual Encouragement

I've been reading the book "The Power of a Praying Woman" by Stormie Omartian.  I have been thoroughly enjoying it.  It's as if the prayers she wrote came right from my heart.  The Lord has been getting me back on track with my walk and this book has been a blessing in the process.

I was about ready to give up on homeschooling but God in His goodness brought encouragement through another blogger.  I actually found her from another site (Guilt Free Homeschooling) and followed her link to our Homeschool Blog.  Her user profile is Dee and her blog is titled Following Him At Home.  One of the links on her page is for Students of the Word.  I'm looking into possibly using their curriculum next year.

My oldest son and I had a really nice time today.  We sat down to do some math and ended up talking for awhile first and then did some multiplication and division.  It was so wonderful.  It's been too long since we've just sat and talked.  I had been a bit scared of doing multiplication and division with him but it went very smoothly and he totally grasped it.  I really like the book that we're using (Strayer-Upton Practical Arithmetics) because as it introduces multiplication, it also goes right into division and fractions.  For example, it starts with multiplying 2 then goes to dividing by 2 and then learning about 1/2.  It gives practice pages on that section, a test and then moves on to multiplying by 3, dividing by 3 and the fraction 1/3 and so on.  It works well for us.

So that's pretty much what has been going on here lately.

How are you?! I'm sorry that I haven't been in to check in on your blog. Glad to see that your blogging again. I think blogging is a little like journaling.. it's very good for the soul. I have read over some of your latest entries. I'm sorry to see that you haven't found a home church yet, but sooo happy to see that you are finding encouragment here and most of all in GOD's word! PTL!!
My life has been busy lately and at times I miss having even the time to sit and GET organized. I see an end coming but right now we are just trying to get the basics done so that we can call it a year . This summer I'm hoping to spend LOTS of time just sitting and praying and reoraginze our lives a little.
Remember.. if you would ever like to take a drive up to Deland I would love to meet you!!
Chat with you soon

I think it takes us all awhile to find our "groove" with homeschooling, and you have a larger challenge than I because of the age differences in the children. But don't worry! You aren't alone, and there is so much encouragement in the HSB community!

God bless....

I'm glad to see you are back! I was wondering how you were doing. I'm glad you found the encouragement! We've been on a "break" for the last couple of weeks. I think I needed more than the girls, but it has been wonderful. We are planting and enjoying outside stuff right now. I'm waiting on a new phonics book (Explode the Code) for my middle one to arrive before we start back up - hopefully tomorrow!

I have 10 year old son also and many days I feel like I'm not getting it right. I just have to believe that God's grace is sufficient to cover me in my obedience to bring home educate him! Because he's an only, I often find it difficult to maintain the intensity I 'feel like' school needs. But then I am reminded ... am I doing school at home or am I homeschooling?? I think that question deserves attention a couple of times a year.

Be Blessed!!

Good to hear you're doing okay and things are going smoothly with homeschooling, especially math! Cherish those times when you just get to talk, especially with your oldest, he'll be a man before you know it...
I'd better get going, just wanted to drop by,
hang in there,
ali
