Striving Day by Day

Mar. 24, 2008 - HELLLLLPP!! I need Help. (Can you tell?)

I look at all these Mom's wonderful profiles and they seem like they have everything together.  They have pictures of their kids doing homeschool activities.  They have schedules.  Their kids seem happy and are learning new things all the time.  I just want to cry.  That's what I want!!!  Why can't I be that way?  I'm so unorganized (which is against my natural tendency - I need organization to function).  I have no set schedule.  No planned homeschool activities.  Lots of wasted time and I don't know how to turn it all around.  My efforts just seem to fall apart.  I'm always left feeling defeated and depressed.  I wish someone could come into my home for a week and show me how to do it.  Kind of like those Nanny 911 shows but it would be Homeschool 911.

Okay, enough venting, time to go make another attempt.

It's easy to hide behind the facade of a blog and make everything appear *perfect*. I hope that encourages you. We ALL have days (even weeks) that don't go according to plans or fall perfectly into place.

Are you a member of The Homeschool Lounge yet? If not, go check it out at www.thehomeschoollounge.com A couple of the groups there that might interest you are "Homeschool Scheduling" and "Home Management" (plus plenty more covering all sorts of interests/topics).

I finally got your message and responded to it so check your messages. Don't let the enemy discourage you! It is his job to make us feel like failures! We all fail because we aren't born perfect. That is why we have Jesus! His blood covers us daily and makes us perfect in our Father's eyes. With God ALL things are possible, just lean on Him and He will enable you to do what He desires. Keep going sister!

hi Debbie,
Nice to meet you on your blog. If you like structure and want to create that for your boys and yourself, maybe you can start with lists. I make one for the week, which only I refer to..an overview. I can add to it or subtract as needed because it is only for my eyes. Then each evening, I make the children a list for the day and put it on their clipboards. (Although, often they want to see it the night before). Then they check things off as they finish. You could write their lists in their own little notebook. Then you can put that and all their papers into a large binder. This keeps everything organized and together for the year. Hope this helps in some small way.

I'm the third eldest in our family. I'm the oldest girl. I'm twelve. I'm from a family of ten, and schedules NEVER seem to work around here.

And June is going to get hectic. Both of my grandparent's fiftieth anniversary's are in June. My mom is organizing her parent's thing, and is helping with my dad's parent's anniversary celebration.

Even after almost sixteen years of homeschooling, it's still really hard around here. My mom says it's a lot easier with us older kids around. Nobody's perfect. If you want help, you might want to visit Barbara Curtis' blog. (http://mommylife.net.) She birthed seven children, and adopted five.

One thing that is the problem with a lot of people is that they tell younger mom's that they have to have everything organized and perfect. It's not true. We should all be striving to get better and better. Not ONE mom can say: "I've made no mistake. Everything has been perfect.". You've made the right choice to homeschool. Keep up with it!

"Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9

May God bless you and guide you through the paths he has chosen for you.

In Christ,
Emily
