Striving Day by Day

Feb. 7, 2006 - How do I find True Fellowship?

After going through a VERY traumatic experience with a local assembly we have found it quite hard to return to organized religion.  We do believe that we should be gathering frequently with true believers, fellowshipping, being accountable, encouraging one another and so forth.  Our problem is, though, that we haven't been able to find like-minded people.

I feel as though we have become somewhat recluse.  Don't get me wrong, we are very outgoing people.  Where ever we go we talk to everyone and we're well liked at our jobs.  The problem is that we don't have any relationships with people that we can have true koinonia with.  Our children don't have any friends.  It's been this way for almost 4 years.

Just had to take a moment to vent.  It's so nice to have a place to do that.

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience in your last place of fellowship, but I want to encourage you to not give up. We are the body of Christ (the church as a whole) and each person does have a place and purpose. Also remember that no church is perfect, because it is filled with imperfect people. ;0) Hang in there and I will be praying for you.

I completely understand. We haven't found a family that we 'click' with yet. We have found a couple that we did click with but they moved to Florida. That was very hard.

My kids have just started to make friends in the neighborhood. They don't have many homeschooling friends, because some of the groups just aren't for us.

I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi there! I just found your blog! We live in Volusia county. So nice to see you here. I will be praying for you this morning. We moved here from MD about 2 years ago and the only way we have survived here is because of our church family. My heart goes out to you as one who knows how much it can hurt to be hurt by fellow christians. I pray that God would guide you all to the exact place where HE desires to shape you and mold you!
Feel free to stop by my blog, add me to your friend list, and or email me. We go down to Orlando A LOT ( we are Disney lovers ) and would love to meet you sometime!
Are you going to go to the homeschool convention?
In Christ,
Mikki

Thank you for the note you left me. It is nice to be able to share your thoughts and concerns with others and know that you are with friends. I hope you can find that comfort amongst us here.
I can very much understand your dilemna. Did you move here to the Orlando area from another state? Florida is very different from where i came from. It's almost like another country within a country. I have found that it has taken a good five years to be at the point of moving about in the community with confidence of where i fit it, in God's plan of course. Press on sister, i will pray for you and your family. And trust Him and His timing for your children. It could be that they are even being protected by our Sovereign Lord who is all wise.
Wish you lived near me, i'd invite you to visit Faith Community Church. If you're ever going to be in the area, let me know and perhaps you can visit us. We are in Volusia County, Debary/Orange City area.
His peace and grace be with you this evening.
Robin.

Recently I met a woman out in the community that I was really drawn to invite to our church. Her husband, son and she came a few weeks later. She told someone that when she walked in, she just knew this was their church. They've been without a church for years. We are as excited over them as they are of us. I will pray for you all and that the Lord will lead you to the church He desires for you to be a part of.

We too have been homeschooling four years and it has only been THIS VERY YEAR that my boys can say they have friends. We are finally making our way in our church and I have found a ministry I love!! It doesn't help that my DH is perfectly content to be alone and only do things as a family. He is not a people person, unlike me and my boys! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers...someday when we are all in Heaven, fellowship won't be an issue anymore...praise God for that!!

done that...
Be patient, let the Lord lead... He will.
We went through a similar time, and struggled mostly alone for a while. The Lord used a series of people and events to lead us to a wonderful little church where we now have friendships like we've never had before. Truly a blessing.
Hang in there, and in the meantime, you should find many a likeminded folk here.
Just keep hitting random blog and reading about other families' journeys, that's how I found you!
And I also have the age difference problem, my oldest is 12, the next oldest is 6, then 5, 3, and 1... yes, scheduling is a definite challenge, but not impossible, keep plugging away!
