Joy in the Journey

Crazy month

I'll be glad to see July!  This month has been a rough one in terms of appointments and it seems like an age since I've been on the computer.  Last Friday we had to have a meeting with the department of special education to review TG's statement and her education provision.  Suffice to say it was a head banging exercise but amicable enough.  We're still no further forward in terms of therapies, funding for technology or resources or practical help, but I get the feeling that if I don't push too hard, they'll leave me alone.

We'd just come home from the above to find a letter from the education board to say that an education welfare officer (truancy with no academic training) would be calling to the house at 9.30 on Monday morning to see me and the children.  Unfortunately I had a long standing arrangement down in Belfast so had to cancel and await further notice.  One wonders ...

Over here, they have a bee in their bonnet about the national curriculum which I don't follow nor do I pretend to.  I don't even use a timetable and as for lesson plans ... There are certain things like maths that have to be done and everyone just gets on with it (some needing more prodding and sitting upon than others!)  I figured I'd it would be a lot easier to revive this blog and keep an online record of our learning should I be called upon to give evidence.  Sure we do have text books but a lot of the things we cover are through individual reading, project work and hands on learning.

Tomorrow is orthopaedic day.  We are going to ask for an orthotics review to get TG sandals.  I'm sure the wonderful NHS budget will not possibly be able to stretch this far.  It is only recently that we realised that they were available.  Every summer her feet sweat in big leather boots that are hard to get on as she curls her toes and there's no way of telling if her feet are in properly.  Oh the UK is a such great place to live.

Do you think you might get to move to Australia anytime soon? It seems like the UK educational program is not that great. Everytime I read about all the trouble you have and all the silly things the school system wants you to do, I am so glad I live in Georgia. You know the kids (and me) would love it if you packed up and moved to Ga. near us. Just a thought. : )

I moved somewhere a bit more strict than what we are used to when it comes to homeschooling, but nothing compared to what you are going thru. Please keep us posted!

Hi Deb,
How are things with you? My dad is still staying with us and I am taking care of both households. He seems to be feeling a little better. The doctor is watching him for any signs of the cancer coming back, but so far, so good.
Everyone says hi and wishes that you didn't live so far away and could visit regularly. : )
The kids are beginning to be bored with summer vacation and are starting to look for things to do. Of course, this always reminds me of all the extra chores that need to be performed. (ha)
Hugs,
Pam

Hi Deb,
The kids were just asking me about you recently. I told them you hadn't blogged for a while. How are you all doing?
B. is taking 2 college classes this semester, so she is busy. I am trying to enroll A. in the homeschool 4h program.
I am listed on facebook, but I rarely visit. Our last name is Wattenbarger if you want to look us up.
Love,
Pam
