Today we were supposed to go to our county's Head Start building with dd#1 to read to the children there. It is an ongoing project for her advisory group at school, and I have gone with them once before because they don't have a handicapped accessible vehicle. (Dd#1 is in a chair.) The last time I went, I thought it would be a fun place to volunteer with the kids.
So today I called ahead to see if I could bring the three younger kids along, and the secretary said that would be fine. We went to dd's school and they even asked ds#1 if he wanted to read one of the stories. Then we all drove over to the school, only to find that all of the classes that weren't taking naps were going to a magic show in five minutes! Now, there was no way that we were going to try to compete with a magic show, so all we could do was leave.
What a disappointment, and how tempting to think of it as a waste of a day's learning. But I suppose it wasn't all loss, because I did give them our contact information so that we might be able to volunteer at some of their evening programs. And the kids got to see the place and learn just a little bit about the program. |

Welcome to my little blog house on the internet prairie. I don't get out here often, but when I do, I will be glad to share a steaming cup of words with you. Come on in any time.
My kids are dd#1: 15; ds#1: 13; ds#2: 9; and dd#2: 6. We don't post pictures here, but you'll hear about them often. You'll hear about dh now and then as well. He and I have just entered our forties, and we are enjoying our second decade of homeschooling all of our kids except dd#1, who is now at high school full time.
Well, now's the time to say goodbye to Debzhaus and all her kin; and we would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in. You're all invited back again to this locality to have a heapin' helpin' of our hospitality. Hillbilly, that is; set a spell--take your shoes off. Y'all come back now, y'hear?
