Doing things Anglo/American style!

He's home!

Sorry for the lack of update. Things have been crazy around here and also, the status of things kept changing today a little too fast to update you on.

We have happy to have Dh home again. However we are still very concerned about him. They did no xrays, tests, scans, or anything else really. Yet they were 'certain' that there was no damage to be concerned about!  I did, after much coaxing, convince the nurse to book an appointment with the consultant. That means that at least he won't have to go on a waiting list for months to see the orthapedic consultant, but rather will stay on his books.

He was supposed to be in till tomorrow. Then he was going to come home but not possibly till this evening. Then we went to see him at 2pm and when we were leaving at 3 they suddenly came in with his discharge papers and meds!  So we suddenly had to pack quick and get him to the car so I could get to the school to pick up Jack and Jill from school who are here overnight tonight and tomorrow night.

He is still on four pain meds and sleeping pills. When he is on them he gets very dopey and can't remember things happening. He has times like tonight where he got up for a couple of hours and was pottering about the house, because it is more comfortable than sitting still alot. Then he lays down and is almost un-rousable.

Thank you for all the prayer support, emails, comments and general love and encouragement from everyone! You have all been such a blessing these past few days!

Please continue to pray as we seek to find the right treatment to keep Dh's back healthy from here on out. We are looking into Chiropractors and Ostiopaths as well as herbal suppliments for health of his nerves and muscles. We need a real wisdom to know the right way to proceed. He will also be under the consultant and the Physio department as well, so we need to work in conjunction with them.

Most of all we pray that God will touch his back and bring a swift healing. He is itching to return to work! I'm having to hide the keys to his car and 'threaten' him if he tries to go to work tomorrow as he has said! He can barely stand straight and he wants to go into work. If he did, he would probably forget where he was ten minutes later with the tablets he is on! LOL! I need patience and wisdom to know how and when to let him mobilise without doing himself a damage.

Thanks again for being such good friends!

Thank God he is back home - being a typical man I see! Papasmurf broke part of his spine when he was younger and it still gives him pain - he sees a chiropractor every so often to get straightened up again (osteopathy is more painful to go through as it involves a lot of manipulation).
Will carry on praying that the Lord will help take away the pain - prayer works wonders (especially those of children!).
God bless,
~Chrissy

I'm so sorry I didn't visit sooner! I will be praying for guidance and direction for your husband's pain and back health. And for God to bring complete healing. And for YOU, my dear! I hope you can get enough rest to do all that you do AND take care of your husband.

Hugs,
Kate

Very glad he is home, though it would have been nice to have had him home pain free!
We keep on praying. Mum and Dad keep asking for updates too.
Love you!

Jul. 4, 2008 - Good Morning!

Posted by callmekate
It's July 3rd, nearly midnight, and I saw you were logged in - couldn't help but say "Good Morning" and hope that your husband is feeling better.

O.k., now it just turned midnight, which means it's the 4th of July. Do your kids know about the 4th? I was just wondering. We went to a concert for the 4th celebration and when they brought out the American flag, some of us placed our hand over our heart. I told my 7 year old to do this and she said, "Why?" Ooops! Guess we need to brush up on our Pledge of Allegiance! We haven't said the pledge since last year at this time and she apparently has forgotten. But I was embarrassed! I hope the parents behind me didn't hear her! It's amazing all the things we need to teach them, things that we automatically learned in public school that are important, like the Pledge. Anyway, I've turned this into a bloggette.

I sure hope you have a better day! Still praying for your dh.

Your friend,
Kate

Oh poor dh!

This same thing happend to my dh two summers ago. It was a prolapsed disc.

He was in hospital on morphine for a week and off work with some strong meds for 3 more. He couldn't sleep in a bed for 6 months. He had x rays in hosptial and nothing operatable-on. Had a MRI a week later which confirmed it. He had physiotherapy which was helpful but had to use crutches a lot for a few weeks.

Chiropracter/osteopathy would not have helped. We did a lot of research at the time and, frustratingly, it is only time and exercises to strengthen core muscles which makes an impact. That and an ergonomically correct chair for work!

Oh and Jamie hallucinated on the meds too, tramadol, I think it was.

Hope he's on the way to rcovery now.
