Urban Homesteaders and Homeschoolers
May. 4, 2006 - Make Way For Ducklings!

The ducklings had a busy day today in their new home, one of the chicken arks in the backyard. There they can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air outdoors--and the rest of us can all enjoy the fresh air indoors. Did I mention that ducklings are smelly when kept indoors? Having raised both chicks and ducklings, I would have to say that ducklings trump the chicks in the smelly category. I cleaned their box daily and changed their water at least three times daily, but they still were smelly. They also grow bigger faster than chicks, so they ran out of room more quickly indoors. Anyway, they love their new accommodations, and so do I.

Five of the ducks went on a field trip to the Brownie Girl Scout's troop meeting, where they were quite a hit! The girls had a lot of fun holding the ducklings, and my ordinarily shy 1G8 enjoyed talking about her pets. She has even named four of them after the different age levels of Girl Scouts: Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette. Obviously, she takes her scouting quite seriously.

P&P
The Pride and Prejudice type: Truly an Austenite,
this type is a Romantic at heart, but they
always keep their head and are wary of
melodrama. Lively, clever, and independent.
These people are easily amused by their own
foibles and the quirkly foibles of others.
They lament society today, and dream of the
time when guys were gentlemen and girls were
ladies.
