Language Explosion...and Oh My, Am I Behind! (April 24)

James is a big talker (as both of his brothers were...never a moment's quiet in this house!), but he's been amazing us all with his sudden vocabulary explosion this week.  Instead of the one or two new words a day that we'd been hearing, this week, he's been adding words to his spoken vocabulary at a rate of six or seven a day!

I keep thinking I ought to make a list of the words he can say for his baby book, but I haven't managed that yet.  However, I AM going to write this list of his new-yesterday-and-today words here as a start.

Yesterday, during a trip to the park, he added to his usual bird vocabulary ("quack quack" - the little guy absolutely adores ducks and geese) by starting to say "duck", "geese", and "honk"!  Throughout the remainder of the day, he also added bubbles, please, stinky, and doggy to his list of understandable spoken words.  He's also been working hard to say Joshua, his new little cousin's name.

Today's new additions to his spoken vocabulary were "tickle", "stuck", "balloon", "that", and "bird".  Several times, he also used an approximation that we think is meant to be "thank you", but it's not yet clear enough to understand for sure.

Of course, his favorite words are still no, stop, and mine...oh, the joys of toddler-hood!

I've got lots of other new posts coming soon - I knew I'd fallen behind, but didn't realize that I hadn't posted ANYTHING since March 6.  I've been working hard at uploading pictures and getting them into drafts here ever since we got the last of the boys into bed tonight and I'll try to get them finished up and actually posted very soon!

My 13 month old, Peanut loves to "talk" but it mainly baby chatter. She can, however, say Dada (not mama), no and her older sister's name (well, a version of it anyway!). I know as mother's we always want our children to talk and then we spend many years telling them to be quiet!! She also loves dogs - they seem to fascinate her! And being outside, but she'll take just looking out the window if it's too cold. Here in WI, winter will not let go of it's icy grip :( Anyway, cute pictures. How are you able to have so many posted? I'm a little tech-challenged!

Fun! I was always thankful that my two were big talkers too. They always got to a point where I could barely keep up with all the new words they were learning.

Scouts, Jello, and a Boy in a Mask (Mar. 7)

To open today's entry, here are two random photos of Ryan from today...

Making jello for J week -

"I'm ready to go to fencing like Tyler!"

In real "news", we had a great cub scout pack meeting this week.  Tyler has worked hard all year and finally earned not only his Bear badge, but a whopping 10 arrow points!  He knew he had earned awards, but we hadn't told him exactly what he'd be receiving, so he was very surprised and excited.

He always has to make silly faces when he gets "war paint" for earning a rank badge...

We also say goodbye to our 5th graders at the March pack meeting, as they cross over into boy scouts.  Last year, Tyler wasn't too interested in or impressed with the ceremony, but he was mesmerized this year.  He's already discussing which boy scout troop he should join two years from now!

Please tell him we said congrats!! Bear badge and ten arrow points, that's quite impressive!!! WEbelos is quite exciting too!! Trey just earned his webelos badge and will be getting his compass point emblem this month!! Yeah!! I'm not looking forward to camping though in May. I prefer the camping inside rather than in a tent. Too bad dad will probably not be home to take him!

Monkeying Around (March 2)

The boys were invited to a birthday party for a couple of our little friends today.  Amelia was turning 2 and her little sister Isabella was celebrating her first birthday.  Their party was at Monkey Bizness, which just recently opened here, and the boys couldn't have been more excited to get to go check it out for the first time.  It didn't disappoint!  The three of them stayed busy for the hour in the playroom, sliding, climbing, running, swinging, and bouncing, and then thoroughly enjoyed their cake and juice.  All three boys (and Daddy!) were worn out and ready for naps by the time the party was over.

James made it down the big slide a couple of times and jumped in the bouncy house some, but he spent most of the party playing in the toddler area.  He particularly liked the caterpillar tunnel.

Ryan just kept going, and going, and going....

Tyler was also unstoppable!

Last, but not least, here's a cheesey James smile.  He was very happy to get to bring home a balloon!

Those places are so fun! We just recently attended an event for our church where a group of adults went to one...without kids. It was sooooo fun, but Big D nearly ripped my arm out of the socket on the obstacle course when we were racing another couple.

Looks like fun. We don't have any Monkey Bizness here but we have something similar. They have three inflatables for children. They have a special Homeschool day as well! It is really appreciated in the winter! Kids so need to burn off all their energy!!

Welcome to our world! I'm the homeschooling mommy of three beautiful, noisy, messy little boys. We've been homeschooling from the beginning. We also run a home daycare and do preschool activities daily. This blog is a photographic chronicle of the highlights and joys, trials and troubles of our journey through life with our "dirt magnets".
