My Mother's Day Tragedy

Two men were killed in a fiery head-on collision on La 1 south of Golden Meadow, Louisiana.

A flatbed truck driven by ♥ 51-year-old Elgin Lirette Jr., ♥ of Houma, was traveling south near Thomas-Sea’s seafood, police said. The truck was hit head-on by a northbound Toyota pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Jarrod Kiger of Lockport, authorities said.

Neither vehicle had a passenger.

The impact shattered the Toyota’s gasoline tank and damaged two diesel tanks on the flatbed, causing the fuel to spill onto the highway and both vehicles to burst into flames.

Lafourche Fire District No. 3 firefighters put out the fire, which left both drivers severely burned. Both men died at the scene.

District 3 Chief Freddie Guidry said diesel fuel, once ignited, can burn intensely, and the tanks on the flatbed were leaking profusely.

"(Diesel) is hard to get going, but once it gets going, look out," Guidry said.

Guidry said that it is too early to know exactly what caused the fuel to ignite.

"In a wreck like this, you have sparks, you have all kinds of things that can cause ignition," Guidry said.

This is what is left of "My Man's" truck. We literally don't even have a body to bury. My son wanted to view his Daddy's remains and the coroner's office refused him. They said that he would have to get a court order first. So, I told him that if the coroners office felt we shouldn't view it, then we shouldn't. The wrecker yard also didn't want my children to see their Daddy's truck. They had to call the owner himself and convince him to let them see it. They told him that they didn't have a body to see, for him to please let them see his truck so they could have some kind of closer.
Every evening at 7:00 "My Man" would call me faithfully and we would talk about our days happenings. Well, on Mother's Day I received my call and we talked for only 20 minutes. He told me that he had to let me go cause he knew that he was coming upon a sharp curve up ahead and would need to have both hands on the wheel. So, we hung up and only 10 minutes later, at 7:30 he was killed when a truck crossed the center line and hit him head on. We were told that he was killed instantly, (more than likely from a broken neck.) The other truck busted open "My Man's" diesel tank.  Both trucks were then engulfed in flames. His body was burned beyond recognition. Even his cell phone and car keys were melted to nothing. "My Man" was instantly taken up to be with Jesus. Ever since I began blogging, I would call my husband "My Man" but in that instant he was no longer "My Man". He now only belongs to Jesus. Please continue to pray for my children and grandbabies. Although we are rejoicing in Elgin's homecoming, we are human and my family is hurting so bad. I actually feel like someone has grabbed a hold of my heart, ripped it out of my chest and is slamming it against a brick wall. I feel like it's all a bad nightmare and that I'll wake up any minute and it'll all be over. Please God, let this nightmare be over.

hi,
I'm a friend of Kristy's...I was reading her blog and read of your tragedy, so I followed it here.
My heart hurts for you so bad. After Steve's (Kristy's husband) death, everything that happens like this hits really hard, but I know I know nothing of the pain you are experiencing right now.
I will be diligently praying for you, your children, and your grandchildren.
With much love in Christ,
Rachel

Although there are no words that we can tell you to take the pain away, please know you are in my prayers. I mentioned on Kristy's blog that I cannot imagine how someone who does not know the Lord can go through losing a loved one. Even if we are mad at God, at least we know He is still there. May the Lord give you "the peace that passeth all understanding". ~Jen

Sad heart
Posted by Anonymous at 1:16 PM
I have such a heavy heart for you and your family. I have not been faithful keeping in contact with you and your girls so I got on this morning to catch up. Wow what an awakening. My husband was out planting and I went right out to check on him. I know you have a heavy burden right now but our God is great and he will be there to carry you through this dark valley.
My friend whose husband had the heart transplant, I believe you and your girls prayed for him, She had a womans conference this past weekend and shared the verses that meant so much to her through her troubled times. I would like to share them with you as well,
Psalm 34:17-18
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as are crushed in spirit.
Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Cry out to the Lord and he will carry you. Love to all your family. Stay strong in Him.

Dear Josephine,
Weeping endureth for a night, but your joy cometh in the morning. This is the scripture that comes to mind, I know words cannot begin to soothe your pain, but recently Ive been doing a Bible study by Kay Arthur- and the Bible speaks of the balm of Gilead- I pray that the Lord will pour his balm of Gilead over your heart, and you mind and soul, and give you strength, peace and comfort.
I know you will feel the emptiness, but Jesus will fill your empty heart he is now your husband and he will carry you. Elgin is and was your soul mate- whom the Lord gave to you, and he is still there in spirit. Remembr the good times and lean on each other for strength. The Lord will be there every step of the way. I will continue praying for you and your beautiful family!!!

...we don't even know each other but I can't tell you how often you and your sweet family have been on my mind since your man went home to stand before his loving Lord. I wake up at night thinking of you all and I pray. I hear something on the news about someone else's accident and I pray. I wish we were near you so that I could help you in some tangible way.

The Lord bless your sweet family and give you great and mighty comfort.

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><
