WhereforartthouNarnia?! We havent been to Narnia much this week. Oh, we've schooled, but we just havent been to Narnia. Not exactly, that is. Yesterday we DID listent to The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. I checked out the Focus On The Family Radio Theatere version last week and so we listened to it on our way to Barnes and Noble. I LOVE this particular version because its just like radio theathere. It has a full cast, music and sound affects, real British accents and all! Boy can they make a meal of fresh fried fish and boiled potatoes sound scrumptuous! The first time I listened to it, we were going into Savannah for the day. It was cold and rainy and perfect for a nice drive in the twilight. But when I got home, I wanted FRESH fried fish and boiled potatoes! Ds has a mania for Turkish delight. I lucked up on a box at T.J. Maxx a few weeks ago. I bought it one evening and by the next day, it was GONE. I cant believe he at the whole thing... Now, everytime we pass the store, he wants to look inside to see if they got another shipment! Its amazing how things are creeping into our being while listening and reading this series. Praise God its all GOOD things! Tomorrow I plan to get us back on schedule, assuming ds isnt sick. He got his flu shot today, well, not the shot, but the LAV (inhaled). I know when I took it, I was out of it for about a day. He's doing good now, but we'll see after tonight. If he's under, then it will be reading and listening to the story on CD, with light math work. |

I was all set to go on a field trip tomorrow with ds. Well, the little man has decided that he would rather have a day with the tutor instead! Go figure. So, now I need to call him up and tell him to come after all. Sigh, not the best start to a Monday...and we havent even GOTTEN to Monday yet!!! |

I got SUCH a good deal on books this weekend! I found several books on mediviel times and other books that, while not on the required reading list, they are suggested. Ds even got his copy of a Beowulf comic book from Barnes & Noble! I brought home about 10 books and only spent approximately $5 for all the used books. Beowulf was new, but I got the Educators Discount. Next Friday I plan to get The Great Divorce and The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis and two more books by Tolkien. That will give me everything I need for ds's study and my OWN personal education!! |

Today was a slow start day. I slept late and we didnt start school til after lunch, so, its still going on! I'm normally an early riser, but last night was rough. Yesterday I took the LAV flu shot, you know, the kind that you inhale. Whoa... I wont do THAT again. Gave me SUCH a bad headache and flu like symptoms that I wont let ds take it, he will have to get it the old fashioned way, a needle We just got done going over Middle Ages, Japan and China. I didnt care too much for it and we arent interested enough to pursue the subject. As soon as we get out of Middle Ages, Australia, the fun really begins! Slowly but surely we will plod along, I want to pace myself just right as we wont break until the day before Thanksgiving AND right after Thanksgiving, we will work up til the day before Christmas Eve. It wont be a full day, but we will be schooling. No more long vacations here! We'll pick up again the day after Christmas and up through New Years. Like I said, it wont be alot of work, but I dont want to take a big break, then try to build up momentum come January, that usually takes us a few weeks, and we dont have a few weeks!

and bought a few things that I've been wanting for a long while! I went to Barnes and Noble and purchased Portable Professor, Of Sorcerers and Men, Tolkien and the Roots of Modern Fantasy Literature. Its a CD course that goes indepth into my favorite topic. I also purchased the Hobbit, on CD. My next and last two purchases where J.R.R. Tolkien, a biography by Humphrey Carpenter and The Narnian, The Life and Imagination of C.S. Lewis, by Alan Jacobs. These items are really for me. I am fascinated by these two great authors. I plan to do an independant study on both of them and I'm praying that I can get my ds to love them also. I mean, he loves the stories, but I want him to love the reasons for the stories, the authors, ykwim? Anyway, I anticipate a long and cozy winter of reading and listening to the books on CD's I purchased and got from the library! |

Well, actually, its Tuesday, but yesterday WAS Monday, and what a Monday it was... Let me start by saying that on Sunday I closeted myself in my study and worked on ds's lesson plan. I did two weeks worth and its a pretty darn impressive piece of work! After taking care of math, language arts, spelling, history and the other classes that are covered in Further Up and Further In, I felt as though I had run a marathon. I even got some correspondence taken care of! Well, Monday rolled around and lo and behold, my dmil called at 6:15am to tell me that our dear aunt had died in her sleep. Dmil has been her primary care giver for aabout 4 years. We knew the end was near and so we were prepared, with the help of Hospice. So, I got up, showered and put on a nice warm dress, shawl and boots and walked to dmil's house (dh had just left for work). Aunty was in her hospital bed and looked for all the world, that she was sleeping peacefully. We waited til Hospice could come and get the all clear from the corinor (sp?) to have the funeral home come and remove her body. After taking care of some business and visiting with the pastor, I came home, with the intention of doing schooling with ds, but he was dressed and at his granny's house post haste. He saw her being removed from her room and taken to the hearse. He even helped the medical supply company break down her hospital bed and pick up her wheelchair. He handled everything so maturely! But needless to say, what with all the comings and goings, schoolwork was put on the way back burner! Today was a little better. We did some math, read some history and took a Spelling Power quiz. We were about to really get started when dd and dsil came over... School was OUT! We will only get a little done tomorrow as I have another funeral to attend at 1pm. I need to prepare string beans for the repast and get it over to the church. I think ds will stay home and do a few assignments, nothing major. TTFN |

Hello and Welcome! I am really excited about my new blog. I've done homeschoolblogger before but somehow fell away from it. I think I may be mature enough to be consistant this time! As I stated in my profile, I love C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien! They are my absolute favorite authors. I could honestly read every bit of information thats out there pertaining to Lewis and Tolkien! Right now we are focusing our studies on Lewis. Later we will move to Tolkien as we also LOVE Lord of the Rings Our ds is 12, very active and all boy. He's our joy! DJ loves to work with his hands and can comprhend instructions when I throw my hands up in the air and walk off in frustration! He has recently been made our church drummer for which we are very proud. He's growing in leaps and bounds physically, spiritualy and academically. Our dd is 17 and married. Yep, married. We graduated her from homeschool high school back in June right before her 17th birthday. She and her dh live not 10 minutes from us. She is a homemaker and they are expecting their first baby sometime in May Back to Chronicling Narnia. We love the program that we are using, its called Further Up and Further In, by Diane Pendergraft. You can find it through this link www.CadronCreek.com There is so much that we can do! Along with Further Up and Further In, we also use Spelling Power and Shurly Grammar, Saxon Math and History of the World. I'm blogging here so I can keep myself accountable for what does or doesnt get done. Its really easy to get side tracked so I know I need to set up this blog to help me stay focused. Tomorrow I plan to write out my schedule. We're working on Chapter 2 of he Magicians's Nephew. God Bless! |

I'm in the process of collecting as much reading material as I can find/afford for the LOTR unit study. I have all but about three of C.S. Lewis' books.
