This morning Im off to HEB (grocery) and a few other stores to finish off my Thanksgiving shopping. Then its home to start preparing the house for Thursday and start cooking and prepping some of the food for Thanksgiving dinner. Today it is cranberry sauce and tomorrows breakfast. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will have Country Grits and Turkey-sausage Casserole, fruit, and biscuits. Before we eat we will give thanks to the Lord for His many blessings and His great love.
When the children come to the table tomorrow morning they will find five kernels of corn to visually show them the difference between the feast that is before them and the famine that the Pilgrims faced. They will have to tell five things that they are thankful for. Aaron will be asked to tell us what he remembers about the Pilgrim story and throughout the day we will listen to Thanksgiving A Time to Remember by Barbara Rainey. (If youve never heard her speak on her Thanksgiving traditions, check out www.reviveourhearts.com and look up last years Thanksgiving message. You will be inspired. I will try to find the link and post it later.)
Thanksgiving Day we will have close to 30 people in our small home. Its hectic and wonderful at the same time. I love hosting Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I will post a recipe or two and tomorrow night or Thanksgiving morning I will post our complete menu.
'Twas the year of the famine in Plymouth of old,
The ice and the snow from the thatched roofs had rolled;
Through the warm skies steered the geese o'er the seas,
And the woodpeckers tapped in the clocks of the trees;
And the boughs on the slopes to the south winds lay bare,
And dreaming of summer, the buds swelled in the air.
The pale Pilgrims welcomed each reddening morn;
There were left but for rations Five Kernels of Corn.
Five Kernels of Corn! Five Kernels of Corn!
But to Bradford a feast were Five Kernels of Corn!'
