A Blessing Bestowed

Posted in Family
This weekend we visited a place called Homestead Heritage in Waco, Texas. While we were there eating lunch a very unusual thing happened to us.

The manager (or the man I assume was the manager) came over to our table and haltingly told us that a man had been watching our family and had noticed how well behaved our children were and that because of their good behavior he had decided to pay our tab of over $40!

To say we were shocked and surprised would have been an understatement.

And what a lesson for me! Because in my eyes the children hadn't been behaving all that well; Caleb kept putting his feet in his chair and turning around and Bess kept playing with the straw in her cup. To me they were not being very “good” at all. Not “bad” but still requiring way too much of my attention. I was only seeing the "bad" while he was seeing the "good".

This man blessed and encouraged us in ways I can't even explain and he humbled us by his simple, yet profound gift and he reminded us of the need for us to be bestowers of such gifts upon others.

Maybe I should have entitled this angels among us.

What a fun time! Your children have thee greatest smiles!

Neat story about the man paying for your dinner. That happened to me once as well. We were on a loooong journey (ended up being 14 hours RT) here in CO to pick up half a cow, and we stopped in a little town to eat dinner, just me and the kids, and we're in this booth waiting for our pizza, and Eli starts singing Johnny Cash: "I killed a man in Reno, just to watch him die...." I put my finger to my lips and whispered, "Shhhhhh....." The restaurant was super small and I know everyone heard it. I was a little embarassed.

Anyway, there were a bunch of bikers (motorcycle)next to our table, and the waitress told me after they left that they had paid for our dinner.

Now that I say all that, it doesn't really relate to your story (lol) in that nobody said my kids were behaving super well.

So.... either they felt sorry for this "single mom" with a bunch of kids, or they were Cash fans. :)

We hiked up and down our mountain for the first time since fall and I'm bushed! I'm outta shape! Off to bed...

What a BLESSING!! I can't imagine how proud (you know what I mean...not bad pride) you must have felt. The Lord really had shown Himself Provider in some unusual ways lately. That is so neat to see considering the way you guys have taken a huge step of faith in that area. I am so happy for you!

Brandi, That is exactly what I was thinking. God provided for us in extraordinary ways on our trip to Waco. We feel so blessed and we had a great time.

To be honest, I wasn't feeling any pride of any kind...just surprise that someone would give us such a sweet gift...and there of all places where I know (from what you've told me) that the kids are expected to be perfect. (And mine are far from.) I was also praying (after) that the kids wouldn't do something horrible after the man blessed us...because that is usually how things work. ;)

Donna, I love the Johnny Cash story! Too funny. That guy was probably loving that Eli was singing. I'd never really listened to Johnny Cash before "Walk the Line" came out. (Is that the title? I can't remember. Great movie, btw.) After that Mark and I both decided that we really like his music. Too funny. Btw, the way you give to others...I think someone should buy your breakfast, lunch and/or dinner every time you are out...esp. when you are out alone with the kids. ;)
